I must say I’ve been thinking whether my wife’s situation would’ve been different had it not been covid. There were three separate doctors and non can see her in person.

Wonder if things would’ve been different..

What he said. My practice (well, the practice where I work, it's no longer mine) switched to private billing a year ago - anyone would think they'd cancelled Christmas. The Medicare rebate is way behind the CPI, and a medical practice is one of the most expensive small businesses to run. The UK system has "capitation", which means the government pays the doctor according to the number of patients in his/her practice, NOT for each visit. This has bred a generation of doctors who want as many patients as possible on the books, but make it very difficult to get in to be seen. Medicare is trying to go down this path - it has Practice Incentive Payments for practices that comply with a set of rules ("Accreditation"), supposedly to ensure a high standard of care. If your practice complies, you get a lump sum of money - enough to pay an RN's wages, so it's not to be sneezed at. But here's the kicker: it's administered by NGO's' which get paid by the government AND charge the practices for the privilege, and every year, they move the goal posts. The latest hoop to jump through is "cultural awareness training" which is compulsory. I don't know what that is - I told them to GFT decades ago. I'm not vocationally registered (another scam) and I'm not accredited. When they suggest I jump through their hoops, I have a very short conversation: two words, involving sex and travel. This stuff is the thin edge of the wedge. Look at the NHS - it's fuched.

 

Replace COVID with government. All those extended lockdowns were a joke. Government funded departments such as Breastscreen were happy to shut at the drop of a hat. We kept on, business as usual and took up the slack with regards to potential breast cancer patients. It’s part of life now and as I’ve always said, get vaxxed, practice good hygiene and get on with it.

Yes well that sounds like a typical beauracratic nightmare! FWIW, I prefer the old way - you pay the doctor and get a bit back from Medicare. no ‘bulk billing’ since that is obviously where the fraud comes in.

 

And what a pathetic snivelling exit speech...

Finishing off the fireplace now , paint of the sides and top of the mantel area ..

Nothing was simple with the job , from pulling out the old COMPLETE bricks as the new steel fireplace was too wide for them to go flush .
To using the new bricks to suit that new fireplace surround . Good old Hawthorn bluey bricks ..

The plaster used set within minutes ...corner cement..Which was used to secure the bricks to the wall, surround to the bricks , which included for strength a steel upper beam and used to secure the marbel mantel against the plate an wall which included for strength corner wedges .

The strength comes from the corner cement and the fact the marble mantel is 8 piece and locks in via the corner wedges ..

NOTHING fitted as per the old fireplace ,not surprising as it had been their 140 plus years.

The plaster of the 8 piece mantel together was hard and so time consuming linning it all up..

So glad I had an older traddie with decades of experience on the job .

Looking forward to decades of use with plenty of heat .
