Chuck rolling through Max after his [Chuck's] first stop was delightful-- i hope it was all new pace, since Max was complaining his fronts were off already.

I’ve read in some places that Ferrari is taking distance from Sainz’s engine blowing up as they would think it wasn’t a reliability issue (an unexpected and unpredictable failure) but a consequence of an abusive requirement by the driver.

    Who knows…

What in the world was with all those track limits warnings and penalties? What a great way to ruin a race!

Doubt it, with everything being controlled by the electronic management system.

    Where did you read this?

Indeed, it's extremely unlikely the engine / gearbox management would allow any abuse from the driver - it's not the good old days when one could miss a gear or downshift to inappropriate rpm... virtually all driver inputs are filtered by software.

Not one bit. It's welcome and broke the monotony. It was an exciting race for once.

Leclerc really earned his salary today. Great job despite the Ferrari engineering department taking over the mantle of chief team clowns and attempting to ruin his race like they did Sainz’s. Leclerc was a class act today.

Max must have had an issue. I don’t believe the Ferrari was genuinely faster. It will be interesting to see if anything further is reported on this.

Merc once again scored very decent points. Ham solid in P3. Another podium.

Well done Haas - double points! And well done to MSC. He’s found some aggression - and that’s a good thing. Long may it continue!

As for Perez - what a joke from him today. He didn’t need to go for the riskiest of risky overtakes on Russel. He would have breezed past soon enough but he lost his head and paid the price. The pressure of being Max’s teammate is clearly getting to him.

    F1 tracks need more gravel.

Ferrari made their car slimmer for Austria, and that must have helped their top speed, which now matches Red Bull's.

What’s with Merc drivers taking out Red Bulls? Between last year and this year that’s, what, 4 RBs taken out?

+1 the true pace must be hidden with respect to Ferrari vs RedBull given tires were the issue. We can hope Ferrari are faster. Circuit specific is the tire issue for RedBull??

Was thinking the issue with Perez/Russell was racing incident. Was seen differently by the Stewards. Not sure what George did wrong, but he lost that decision. Perez was impatient as you state.

Should investigate the marshal who set down his fire extinguisher and left the scene of a burning Ferrari.

As far as I’m concerned, if it’s paved it should in bounds….except for runoff areas, of course….:)

right? After the white line, 1 meter wide gravel. Run wide, costs you time. Problem solved.

The issue is that proper gravel traps or grass tend to be replaced everywhere by run-off areas that are perfectly driveable - I guess for safety and convenience reasons (cars trapped in gravel would cause lots of race interruptions, whereas grass run offs make the cars out of control).
So there is a need to enforce cars running on the actual track and not taking short cuts (btw, it's not only for F1; we see that also in far lesser series).

This can't be the only track where drivers push those limits, but suddenly warnings and penalties. If they're all doing it every lap and it's not dangerous, who really cares?
