I'm looking to add storage cabinets and a workbench in a new garage. Garage Living quoted $24K (!) for powder coated steel cabinets, etc. Omitting the $3K for floor tiles, it still leaves $21K, which seems steep. On the other hand, I don't want particle-board/MDF junk, so steel seems like the right material.

Anyone gone this route? I'm thinking I could just buy cabinets and have my handyman install them.

Here's the proposed cabinet layout, which meets our needs:

I have to agree, the HFreight Icon cabinets look and feel amazing. Plus, you get colors including red.

Check out Saber. They are very well built but much less than some of the ultra high end.
For lower end price new age isn’t bad for the price.

By far the highest quality all aluminum cabinets are CTech. You’ll see their pit carts in just about every race series and in team shops. Can be built to fit exactly to your space. www.raceteamcabinets.com

Garage Living uses Baldhead cabinets. I have them. Love them. Quality build.

Thanks! I actually sent a separate inquiry to Baldhead. I’ve heard they’re among the best.

After evaluating all the options I ended up going with Newage. The high end stuff like Bladhead is great, but the price for a residential application I couldn't justify. The newage ones are "good enough". They look the part, and for my garage needs will be more than sufficient in function. I did a whole 18' wall of them with an 8' work bench area for a fraction of the price a friend did only about 8' of custom Baldheads. Sure his are far nicer and he could customize them any way he wanted, but Newage are still high end looking, feeling, and more durable than many especially some of the way overpriced powder coated MDF options being marketed to the garage market.

I bought some husky ones from Home Depot. They had a sale on them and were 40% off at the time and I love the quality of them.

I have Saber and they are nice and affordable
I bought them years ago. I can’t say if their pricing is still reasonable
I bought them after seeing a review from Matt on Obsessed Garage

I did the same thing 4 years ago and have been extremely happy with them. Shop around and you can often find them on sale somewhere. They are incredibly heavy and well built. I did all lower cabinets with doors and drawers. Great value.

I did all New Age cabinets in the Florida garage remodel. Some Pro series and some Bold (for the shallower depth needed along the sidewalls). Also incorporated two Husky roller tool box bottoms with wood work surfaces for portable workstations.

I bought a set from Costco, red/black. They are not Stanley/Vidmar quality but are adequate for what I am using them for.

I have had them for about 5 years and do not regret them for a minute!

If you are just using them for storage and garage work the New Age Pro cabinets have been excellent. Not terribly expensive if you shop around. If you are using your garage as an entertainment space then maybe some of the upper end stuff makes sense. Have had these for about 4 years and they’ve held up beautifully.

This might work. Powder-coated steel, right sizes. The garage is nice but no, we entertain by the pool.

    I like the red.

Sonic MSS+ for the win. If this is a long-term home, I recommend buying once, and crying once. Obsessed Garage has tons of other videos that feature Sonic MSS+ cabinets. Here’s one.

By the way, MSS+ is the solution I chose for the detached garage I am building, so I am highly biased.
