Usually the PAG oil has dye in it that can be seen with UV bulb.

    i see
you mean the oil can be found at any leaking point

if you use a black light sometimes you can spot the fluorescence from the dye around joints.

My experience, thus far, has been the Shrader valve in the fill port is the source of my slow leaks.

We used to use a propane gas detector on the freon 12+22 systems, very good but not sure if it works on more modern gases

That's at least the point of the dye to locate the location where the oil is pushed out at the leak. The other post about Shrader valve replacement is a great idea.

If gas leaks out, it usually brings some of the oil mist with it.

so , I bought that UV flashlight, and I looked around
I couldn't figure what exactly a leak should look like. Somebody can describe it?

It depends what dye is in the oil, if any at all. We used to use a blacklight to test water and oil coolers for leaks, we mixed flourescene with the water and if it leaked it showed up bright green under the light

Mixture of gas and oil, looks like a bubble gunge

so , does it mean I can use UV light to find leaks?
I've got the right oil in my a/c system already?

Did you take any pictures of the compressor under UV light?

It really depends if the oil has a dye that will show up under the black light. It is usually added to fridge oil if you think you have a leak. I never saw it in our refrigeration systems at work but we did use it on water cooler tubes.
If you let a bit out of the filling valve and see if it detects some, then you know it is in the oil

no I didn't, but planning to do it in the next 24 hours.

because removing the frunk liner is easy, so I did that first.

Sorry, I should of clarified that problematic systems have the UV activated PAG oil. If that is factory then you would not have the needed additive. I made that assumption with the involvement of 3rd party and ongoing leaks over the time frame. (365 days topic)
