Time after time I’ve been told by Ferrari dealership sales representatives and mechanics that the factory never offered a painted Targa top for the Ferrari 355 GTS. An owner of a 1999 sent a copy of his window sticker today, showing it as an option on his. Wondering how many others have this has an actual factory option rather than a dealership or after market change. And although not too easy to read, it appears to read 355 FTS….(what the?..)

Just because it’s on the monroney doesn’t mean it’s a factory option and not a dealer option.

Interesting Tony, also, it appears that yours says FTS too. What is FTS?

If it was a FACTORY option it would cost the same on these two cars. It was done by the dealer. You have two nearly identical cars sold miles apart and the cost is different. Why is that? It’s not a factory option.

I'm not so sure about that. First guy cut his VIN off and the prices are very, very close. Close enough that this could be the difference in both cars being 99 model years, but built six months apart.

One is $1725 and one is $1791....certainly not the difference between dealer paint shop rates.

    I say it's a factory option.

In Australia, the painted roof in body colour was standard on 5.2 cars onwards.

    That is incorrect.

I have restored a 1998 F1 GTS and it was factory equipped with black roof. Not red as per the body.

My understanding is the roof was textured black on all 2.7 cars and at some stage later in the model cycle circa 1997 when the fender shields and such could be optioned the targa panel could be optioned to be body colored from the factory.

Those option could be different and depend on the market. Some have period price list with all option available ?

@retro.phit - I agree it’s odd that the option cost is different on these two Monroney labels. With that said I believe that those are both true factory options.

I worked with Porsche in Minneapolis and in Sydney, Australia for 21 years (dealership side - in service and in sales) and the Monroney is printed by the importer (Porsche Cars North America in my case). If ever one was torn, destroyed or missing outright, we would obtain another from PCNA. There was (and I believe still is) no way for a dealership to add a line item onto an original Monroney, nor was there a way to print one at the dealership level.

Of course for pre-owned vehicles we had our own in house placards that looked similar to a Monroney and we could add extras to the original spec list (PPF, tint, painted roof for example) but those were not the same.

It could be that one car was delivered in 1998, and the other in 1999 (both 99 MY cars) and the difference was a dollar exchange rate item? That’s a pure guess. As I was never with Ferrari the above is my speculation - it may or may not be correct.

Ummm, I dunno about that. Google stories here in the US about dealer markups during 2020/1. The ADM is always a part of the Monroney. As are dealer options like floor mats, coatings, etc.

That would be very surprising, but might be. I’ve been away from the dealership world now for 2.5yrs. I’ll ask my former colleagues and see what they say. Thx much.

Just spoke to my guys (in the USA)… they have never added anything to an original Monroney (nor do they have a way to do so).

ADM’s ARE required to be displayed though - it’s done as a small placard fixed under or near the Monroney. Same for installed PPF, tint, different wheels, etc. Has to be there.

That’s one dealership - so only one data point, but I believe there are legal issues if someone tried /tries to add information to a real Monroney. My opinion here again.

This is my theory and why I pointed out (and lamented) about the first guy not including the too part of the form showing the VIN.
