Sadly, methinks another crop of garage queens that will not see much real use, other than on & and off a trailer, which will be venerated a decade from now for their low mileage.

 

Its all naval gazing because really who has the wealth and driving ability and spine to drive these cars. I mean you could buy anything and spend enough cash to make it road worthy, or find a country with lax rules or register it as a tractor or otherwise find a loophole to do it. But even the recent spate of supercars (LaFs, Paganis, Koenigseggs and the like) and hypercars generally come to market with sub 1,000 miles, often with delivery mileage only since use generally kills resale. And once you get more specialised, such as track day specials or prototypes, are they even comfortable on the road, I am guessing their suspension setups and seating are not going to be fun for all but the shortest blat around the block. And don't even think about cup holders!

About time for another list since RM have added several new Ferrari, Bonhams have also secured several early Ferrari, Mecum have added their Ferrari prototypes and a rare Duesenberg while Gooding have added several collections of high end Porsche and everyone have begun adding estimates. Already there are 108 cars on offer that should top $1 million and they collectively have a value of circa $300 million which is a little cray, cray. And Gooding haven't even announced their marque lot(s) so it looks like we will have potential for the greatest Monterey auction week ever!

There is so much more to add, Broad Arrow have launched their remaining lots, RM have a M-B 300SL Roadster, Ferrari 250GT LWB California and more, Gooding have announced various modern supercars and various Ferraris and Bonhams a truck load of vintage cars. The weird thing is that Gooding still haven't announced any headline act and they always have at least one $10 mm car............................

This chassis is listed as "The most successful undefeated Ferrari Formula One chassis across all eras" by winning all 4 races (Schumacher).

However, Ferrari World magazine says this chassis was the intended spare for the Monaco Grand Prix, but actually raced by Eddie Irvine (finishing 3rd).

What is correct?

 

Bonhams have now launched their Quail Lodge catalog with arguably their best selection since the mid 2010s when they sold a GTO and a Interim berlinetta in consecutive years. A couple of lots are having their second run but that Jaguar E-Type Lightweight is one of greatest 1960s race cars, elsewhere the Alfa 33TT12, 6C1750, Bugatti, Stutz and early Ferraris are all superb.

Broad Arrows are the new boys on the block and the first truly new player since the mid 2010s auction fad saw a handful of car dealers play at running auctions and quickly give up. This time around the money behind Broad Arrows has funded almost half of RMs team and in doing so bought access to a lot of whales. That said drill down and the top lots are a rather boring collection of modern supercars, a Merc that RM sold twice before and a Ferrari Tour de France that RM failed to shift a few years back. But still their is more excitement in the 90 cars on offer than Worldwide ever offered and as much as Mecum will be offering this year so bravo to them.

If the latest FCA annual experience is anything to go by, these vintages are being shown less and less.

Buyers are paying more $ but using these cars less and less it seems. V sad for us.

 

Both Gooding & Co. and RM have printed catalogs for Monterey. I was able to easily order the Gooding catalog online. I called RM to order a catalog, and was told they no longer have catalogs available to order and send out. Catalogs only available on site at the auction. Poor practice toward those unable to attend; did not do much for my opinion of RM - if you were a consigner, you would be looking for a policy of courtesy and exposure. Regarding the FCA annual meetings, i gave up on those long ago. The FCA annual is no longer a venue for showing the early cars; there are too many competing major concours and the Cavallino event. Compounding the problem is the ridiculous package pricing of the FCA. I wished to attend the annual meeting one year, now long ago, without a car. I was simply interested to attend the concours event, nothing else. I was forced to buy one of their packages at over $500. When I got to the event, I received a souvenir bag of pure junk and people visited the concours by just walking in. I was pissed. Cancelled my membership; FCA and will never go back. All around decline.

OTOH, I’ve always been known to possess my own “conspiracy theories” or “views of the world” , although most relate to much bigger issues than transparencies of used car auction sales and many aren’t necessarily acknowledged or shared by many others.

 

the bidder is real and has been discussed before. Not making any comment otherwise, but not a shill/fake bidder

 

Funny enough, the seller has at least one other Dino in inventory

 

I can speak from personal knowledge that this is not some sham bid for future benefit.

They have been dealing in lots of cars, including lots of Dino’s for years.

It’s not as though this is something not known. Most of what they do it’s not made public
