That is a straight up roller bearing. Highly unusual for one to break. In fact the only bearings I have seen break in any of these is the double row ball bearings that carry not only the axial load but the thrust load too. The only failure of the 108655 I have ever seen was from someone leaving out or misinstalling the circlip behind it that locates it. Then it just walks out and leaves the shaft unsupported. I strongly suspect at some point in time that happened to his car and started this chain of events.
