Thoughts on the crazy price increase on 458's since January? Is it sustainable or just a bubble?

The prices are all up thats for sure but do they actually sell at that price is the real question.

Here is an Aperta. Thats 1.8 Million AUD or $1.26 Million USD.

All high-end cars are spiking/have spiked - I think it is a bubble for the most part and much like high-end watches the people who bought high-end stuff with liquid money will be looking to liquidate depending on how the economic winds blow.

That said, since your thread is about 458s specifically - As you obviously know the 458 holds a significant niche since it is the last NA mid-engine V8 Ferrari and the last mid-engine Ferrari designed by Pininfarina. For these reasons (specifically the NA aspect and associated irreplaceable sound) the 458s have spiked even more than their successors and in many cases are close to or have surpassed some 488 values - F8s are also at some risk not only by 458s but now also 296s which is a bit unfair since both 488s and F8s are absolutely phenomenal cars IMHO (and I am a 458 Spider owner).

So my opinion - and I am by no means a market expert by any means - is that the bubble will deflate but not burst and the 458s will come out still very highly valued with few on the market and those that are commanding high prices.

    Cheers :)

Really low result for this auction that just happened - 2013 Spyder for $167.5k. It has to have a story, right?

I've always wanted a 458 but I'm disinclined at these prices. Instead I'm putting sidelined cash into equities. Hopefully I'll come out the other end looking good. Not in a rush either way.

    But are they selling ?

Along with the trend I'm seeing hopefuls advertising **** , crappy MR2's that are valued at about $5k for $40 k. Doesn't mean that they are selling.

The positive I see is that my 488 GTB is insured more than what I paid for her brand new by $20 K. Thats the real plus. Pre pandemic It was $100 K less than what I paid for her.

Great point - From what I see the Ferrari's are definitely selling - especially 458s - Any time FoD gets one in on trade it is bought before it even gets prepped for sale or on the website - pretty much the same with 488s as well unless it is an odd spec - Cali's can sit for a while but pretty much everything else moves quickly and at a markup. Same thing with Porsche's - But to your point everyone it hitching their wagon to this and I see used Mustang's for ridiculous money as well as fairly basic Audi's and Bimmers - I keep saying the if people bought Ferrari's are reasonable money they are probably ok - maybe not going to be what you retire on but you won't take a bath either - Just my .02 and could be totally wrong either way :)

I'm in the market for a 458 and, you are correct, they seem higher and actually at near the same price point as some early 488's. I doubt it is sustainable but we'll see how the summer progresses. I'm kicking myself for not moving forward on one I looked at late last year at $185K. Seems like a bargain now.

Everything is up and inventory seems to be sitting but 458s seem to be selling. This is purely antidotal .

That seems like a heck of a bargain. Four years ago I bought a 2012 458 red/tan 5500 miles on it for $183k. If you are getting $185 last year even with more mileage that is a heck of a deal. These things seem through the roof now.

I don’t think this is one of the links posted above but gives a great Ferrari 458 market update

That was me getting that 458 today. I fully expected to go for much higher so I jumped on it at that price especially since BaT prices are usually crazy. Got lucky (I think) today but time will tell.

Nice job @Monteman. At that price even if the interior is a bit rough you have plenty of $ to fix it up.

Great buy. Looking at 458 sales on BaT historically, it seems like it's not a great place to get top dollar for them.

congrats on the car. I was bidding against you. Only reason I didn’t go higher is because I have my eyes on a car that already has the $20k in mods that I would want anyway for $225k. Either way that’s a great car for a great price. I’d make him pull that wrap to see what’s underneath before purchasing it tho.
