The 812 is a porker as far as track cars go but it makes for a fabulous hyper GT on the street. I’m not saying to not track your 812 just don’t expect it keep up with lighter nimbler cars on a technical track. But the V12 sounds awesome doing it!

I've driven my 812 on track and it's great. Lately though I just don't think it's the right car for tracking and really enjoy street driving and long mountain drivers better. For one thing the car is super expensive and there is no way to insure it on the track. And then it scrubs the tires/brakes hard etc. I can buy other cars to track (and in fact own other cars).

The 812 is simply too heavy to throw around on a track.
I have done so multiple times.
An F8/Pista is considerable faster on most tracks.
The 812 wins on longer straights, but looses it on the corners and braking capabilities.
It's still a massively entertaining car on the track, but it just wasn't build for it.

However I still won't call it a comfo cruiser. It is too nervous for that.

Considering how nervous the car feels I vote for calling it a hyperGT!

Well I will admit the 488 and F8 are easier to drive fast on the track but the 812 is plenty fun to drive on the track and it's a lot faster than the 488 in a straight line. The F8 is the best car I have ever driven on the track but I don't own one. I traded my 488 spider for the 812 and haven't missed the 488 a bit. One thing I particularly like about the 812 is how good it looks parked in the driveway.

thanks, I think it's very good looking even though people confuse it with a Corvette from time to time.

That’s why I didn’t get a 575. Wife and kids didn’t like it and said it looked like a vette.

Let the deposit roll & held out til the 599 came out. Took one look at it, asked for my deposit back and waited it out for the F12……

I call mine my Italian corvette. I personally prefer the subtly and people not knowing, means I can generally enjoy the car without too much attention. Get in the F8 and you can’t go anywhere without tons of attention.

I think the OP has been chased off and the thread is now just owners back-patting each other.

Bikers point to each other, Jeep CJ/Wranglers have the wave.

SF owners don’t need a pat on the back or anything- we all have a **** eating grin on our faces……….

You can just say Americans, in the Seattle area I very regularly get corvette comments in the 812. One person called it a Viper.

One day this lady complimented our 812 and said it was sure a pretty corvette. She had never seen one that color before! I thanked her and never corrected. I think it is hilarious!

    Gotta love Texas!!

Some 30 ago my mother drove to her doctor's office in a brand new Mazda Xedos 6. The doctor said: "Lovely new Jaguar madam!".

Got the viper comment with my Vanquish S. (My 360 spider revenge) only this time I didn’t say a word. Drove into Houston with an SL 55 came back with the Vanquish. Got the silent treatment for a week.

I haven't driven mine at the track for the same reasons. I have done the Corsa Piloto sport and advanced courses which have you driving the F8 and 812. It's been worth the money because you get a lot of track time in the cars and good instruction.

Chased off? No. Maybe just bored with response after response that so perfectly fits the stereotype that it’s almost sad.

That they are amazing machine and people love them….just a fact. Honestly, Porsche doesn’t have anything that approaches the specialness of the V12, I say that as a current and relatively extensive past owner.

Not sure what's more difficult. To make a 3100-3150 lbs car that revs to 9000 rpm and can lap nurburgring sub 7 minutes OR make a 6.5 liter V12 engine that sings nirvana. Both are unique but I'd argue shrinking something in size and reducing weight by hundreds of pounds is a far more difficult thing to do than to keep making bigger engines. 911 with its 96 inch wheel base looks like a little toddler next to any Ferrari model (not just 812 - which 812 looks huge as its length resembles almost like a 2 door mustang or a bmw). Ferrari does not make a car that can feel and drive like a 911 GT3. You could argue they used to (458 speciale) but a) it was still a bit too big and b) I dont think it was good in terms of steering as well as durability.

And the last sentence is at relates to Porsche. I own both and will grab my ferrari keys 9 out of 10. With that said, Porsche does make a wonderful car too.
