Beyond the strategy screw ups, the biggest issue I see—and which could explain the screw-ups—is what’s the deal with the lack of respect shown to LEC? He’s treated like a no. 2 driver and the team walks on eggshells in regards to Sainz. Is there something in Ferrari’s contracts with Sainz and his 2 Spanish backers that are hand-cuffing Ferrari’s ability to manage the races?
They need to make changes. Currently we have Binotto saying that, looking back over the whole season, nothing needs to be changed (!!!). If that's his actual feelings and not just the public statement, I'll retract my original statement and he needs to be sacked before Spa.
Leclerc had a clear pace advantage and Ferrari didn't even consider the option to swap them around until it happened at the pitstops. It blows my mind!
AI, machine learning stuff is great... At what it's great at. Just like autopilots and solid state AHRS systems in aircraft. Fly it perfect... Until they don't, then you need experience in the real world. To many variables for AI as yet in a very fluid environment.
Hmm, Bino's constant "we analyze and understand" sounds just like an AI talking. Clearly, F is lead by an AI.
Sorry about that, but I did put a at the start of the post, LOL. Anyway, might even happen given Alpine have no second driver at this time
Interesting: Verstappen and Russell had almost the exact tire strategy. Also, it is clear to see Leclerc tire debacle with the hard compound, but looking at this, I'm not sure why Sainz was not much much faster? It is not too different from Hamilton's one. Maybe this is where Binotto's comment is coming from rather than the obvious one around Leclerc and the one pretty much everyone is alleging to.
Yup. In the early stages Leclerc already showed he was quicker. Ferrari refused to swap positions (even if they could swap back later). When they finally got Sainz out of the way Charles remained quick but his 2nd stint was way too short despite having good pace on the mediums. Lec pitted after Sainz in Stint 1 and was pitted WAY before Sainz in stint 2 (what logic is that?!, and then having to pit again not long after. At the pace Leclerc had on the mediums, at the very least they should've kept going on the mediums and pitted when they where losing pace, and then go on the soft tyres. Had they done that, Leclerc would've come in for Soft on around Lap 51ish. Would they have won? Hard to say given Max's pace, but not impossible. But based on time loss on the Hards and extra pitstop, bare minimum would've been P3 and very likely P2. 10 valuable points lost.
