Pulled the trigger on a gated. As part of getting it checked I asked for a compression test. The tech stated for this car a compression test really isn't a value added exercise, he said if there was a compression problem car would not pass smog and there would be red flags raised by the electronics. He said compression test is more applicable for older cars. For completeness I did it anyway. These were the results. So I'm now a happy Modena owner!

My F430 had a compression test done at the Ferrari dealer prior to purchase and my numbers were 170 - 175 psi. This was on a car with 4,700 miles so your numbers are very good.

Hes wrong. I had a 360 that ate a catalytic converter. No CEL, still passed smog and I ended up replacing all 8 pistons. because of all the very hard and abrasive debris that went through it.

I thought one of the important things was that compression should be consistent cylinder to cylinder, and that absolute numbers (within reason) are less important. So the OP got around 200 but the other guy got 170. My guess is both are fine.

Yes. I think 1st one. Resulted in a suit. I was able to prove cat material can go clear back up to intake manifold.
    Ferrari said it couldn't happen.

Old post, I know.... But my search turned up no results, so here I am :

How do I turn off the fuel, on a 360, in order to do the compression test?
Fuse? Unplug the CAS? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, in advance!

I think if you drive it and it pulls hard, youre fine, alot of compression test people lose sleep and pass on good cars.

This example is the only time I hear of 360's "failing" compression tests...glad I have a '99.

I've heard other well-known mechanics that state they almost never do compression tests on the 360

Just unplug the injectors at the fuel rail. Simple and effective. Better to do a leak down than compression..but if you are within 10% you should be o.k..

It needs a diffuser rod, a defrost vent (top of dash), and the AC serviced. The PPF on the leading edge of the lower air scoops is cracked.
All stuff I don't mind fixing.
It runs and drives perfectly. I have zero complaints with the price I paid. The F1 trans is so quirky... Brings a smile to my face every time I let it shift in auto mode.
I'm glad I was able to find a seller willing to sell for a fair (pre-covid) price.

For once, I was in the right place at the right time, right circumstance. He really needed to get rid of it due to buying a different car. He didn't even have a place to keep it at his house. I had decided not to buy, initially. He asked how much I'd be willing to pay to take it home. I low-balled him, fully expecting to leave empty handed. He accepted.

Thank you! Did the engine oil and tranny change this week. Tried the same on the GT3, that didn’t go as well :) 360 was actually quite fun to service.
