How noticeable is the difference when this package is on the car and how many cars were built out of the 500+ with this package

My '02 575 has the FHP and I have to complaints about handling but can't make a comparison to 575 with standard set up. From reading, IIRC, the most positive impact of having FHP is with the first few years of 575 production. Taz is the expert.

Is it true the brakes squeak a lot or is this only when they are cold

I have a 2002 with FHP. After 15 years of ownership and 20k miles, my brakes have never squeaked. It has been a great drive plus it looks like it just came from the factory.

I have a 2005 with FHP. My brakes have never squealed. I love the handling but I don't have a data point since I have never driven a 575 without it.
The reason I bought the car iwith FHP is all of the reviews and commentary were very negative in comparing the 575 without FHP to the 550. The 575 with FHP negates that issue. Personally, I wouldn't buy one without it
    Tax can surely elaborate

My '02 w/ FHP is noticeably flatter both laterally and dive/squat than other early 575s I remember test driving. During the hunt process, I really could tell. Today, I'm just use to the car with FHP so I'm working off a fading subjective. And on the other issue, I don't suffer brake squeal. Maybe once or twice in a year but I couldn't tell you that the conditions of the drive were any different from everyday.

Many FHP 575Ms had their brake pads changed very early in their lives because they did indeed squeal until well bedded. Mine had over 15,000 miles on her when I bought her and rarely squealed. I bought a couple of take-off sets of pads, long since sold.

Handling on early 575Ms with one shock ECU (see document below) was panned by the UK press and that kind of stuck. Later 575Ms have improved ECUs and post AN 52556 575Ms have a steering position sensor that largely negates the need for FHP. Just fitting the FHP hydraulic steering ECU improves feel quite a bit, but HGTC 575Ms did not have the FHP steering ECU.

I must have answered these questions a hundred times, but there are always new owners. Reading the 575M Technical Thread backwards helps.

Also have FHP on my 2004.

Car is tight, flat. Zero attributes relates to complaints about non-FHP cars, which I have not driven. That said, I can compare to the 550, which is similarly flat but with noticeably lighter steering and perhaps slightly faster to respond to smaller inputs.

Dealers may have changed the original Pagid Orange pads for something else routinely. I liked the brake squeal and could make the 575 sound like a dump truck coming to a slow stop. At the first brake change, different pads were installed I wasn't asked if I wanted a change of pad type.

Joe- That response is likely due to the steering position sensor on all 550s, but only late 575Ms, since the steering on the 550 and 575M is pretty much identical. Smaller tires may contribute, too.

Stephen- My FHP brakes with about 15,000 miles only squealed about once a month, but it was a pretty good squeal, like an old Miura. Ceramics now. No squeal, no dust.

Joe- Also FHP steering is heavier feeling (less boost) than non-FHP steering, 550 or 575M.

Right, Terry. Thanks to Dave and John at Maranello Skunkworks, my 550 is one of only ten having a switchable steering ECU. I can switch between stock and FHP steering on the fly. I spend most of my time in FHP steering mode.

Barry while we are on the FHP 550 topic….my historical research was insane….here was my list of those cars….I’d welcome any corrections.

    +) Dave’s car Norcal
    +) Jon’s car Houston
    +) Fat Billy Bob SoCal
    +) Tajaro New York is a 456 I thought?
    +) Da Chedda (banned)?
    +) 308 GTB (new Jersey)
    +) 12659 Seattle
+) Root Norcal (I don’t think I asked him but he was on my list - car sold recently on BaT)
    +) Dodici Norcal
+) Jon Von Bon (Florida/Toronto) Owns FBB's Silver Rocket 550 with cruise control and FHP

Not sure if that’s right but those were the hot cars I was historically hunting….

in my opinion those guys plus the Fabio cars like Nifty’s and a few others comprise the “top 20” 550’s

for me the holy grail 550’s were the MSW cars and then heaven forbid they had carbon, Daytonas, modulars, shields and then the holy sacrament (Fabios handiwork) that represents “Alicorn 550 status”. ;-)

i don’t recall how many 550’s have the COP….I’d have to dig in my notes…
