Geez Joe, is that the best you can come up with, "without any outlay whatsoever". So now, you are saying I do not have a right to say what I would or feel like saying, because you deem so? Who are you anyway, with all this reverb? You must have had a stint with GRU. Regards, Alberto
While I had feared (or hoped ?) to have been a anomaly, I must say I’m relieved to see there being at least one other OCD geek/weirdo paying attention to authenticity and correctness (or lack) of obscure details often missed or overlooked and in many cases hardly, if ever, even visible in a fully assembled/completed vehicle besides me, since this ^^ is how I tend to peruse most photos/pictures showcasing Daytonas* and especially those for sale and/or claiming a “Platinum” award or level of restoration, which as some here may know or recall having caused me to become of an opinion that about 9 out of 10 of those awarded with or claiming such shouldn't have been awarded with one or make such claims, since majority of them aren’t even close enough for “Silver”. But hey, not my rules. OTOH, while the above list appears quite impressive and clearly has numerous valid points, I believe some of the noted details shouldn't be a cause for deductions if IAC/PFA guidelines were to be used for judging. * Along with few other make and model vintage cars I’m a bit more acquainted with. Probably true, but how much you think even the most “qualified” Judges catch in 15-20 minutes usually allocated per each car at most FCA or other judged events adhering to IAC/PFA (or similar) guidelines and procedures ? Now that’s some of the funniest s**t I’ve read here recently.
Impressive list Alberto, do you think the daytona seat inserts are wrong as well? Should be 8 black inserts on the seat and 6 on the back support. If it did go for $845K then I may well sell my C&F GT too..........or could I? Tony
Shouldn't that be 9 black inserts on the (bottom part) seat and 6 on the back support? In pictures the extra one is sometimes concealed because it's underneath the bottom edge of the front.
Tony is correct. There were six rows on the seat back and 8 on the base. Tony still has the original factory made Daytona style insert seats in vinyl for his car. Here are my seats being made from Connolly Vaumol and fitted by a trimmer who had worked on these cars for over 30 years when he did my car. He had various factory original covers in both leather and vinyl that he'd been asked to remove over the years which he'd kept and worked from as patterns. The 8th insert strip on the base is the one that turns over the edge of the cushion. That part that fasten to the webbing and is hidden from view should be the main colour/material of the seat. You can just see the 8th row on the front of the cushion as it turns under the base. Image Unavailable, Please Login
07826 pictured below has 8 black inserts on view, though it may have an extra one where it curls up on the bottom front edge? Image Unavailable, Please Login I've seen Chairs and Flares Dinos that are said to be original that have 9 black inserts. O'Rourke Coachtrimmers are experienced in remaking the Dino Chairs seats. Below is one of their examples with 9 black inserts. Image Unavailable, Please Login Another O'Rourke Dino Chairs seat with 9 black inserts. There are others. Image Unavailable, Please Login
here are my original seats and as you say the 8th strip is hidden from view. That leaves 7 strips on view, but the ones under discussion only show 6 (7th one hidden) Image Unavailable, Please Login
8 strips are in full view. I think it's the 9th pair of black insert strips that are hidden from view but you can just make them out where arrowed? Image Unavailable, Please Login What is in full view has a lot to do with the way the cover/seat base has been applied/fixed to the chassis/carcass of the seat and the foam inside the cover.

I bought my insert strips from Rorky and he said there 9 insert strips on the seat base but the original covers my trimmer had kept along with that factory photo showed otherwise. My trimmer said there should only be 8 as that is all he had ever seen on original seats and he had worked on a lot of cars. He let Rorky borrow his original 246 Daytona style insert covers so that he could see for himself the correct spacing. If you look at the spacing O'Rourke have used on the examples you've shown it is incorrect compared to the original factory version. Look at the lowest insert strip on the seat back. On the factory version it sits just below the stitching seam of the hip point corner insert on the outer cushion. On the O'Rourke version it sits above this seam. That gives an incorrect spacing for the rest of the inserts.
Hello Tony, The list came out on "F. life" someone C & P it on BaT. No idea on the inserts, as I don't have Daytona seats on the L nor the E. , Your GT will probably make more, much more... Regards, Alberto
THIS....THREAD.....is an educational posting for all who seek more knowledge in the category... Consider these posts Due Diligence when purchasing your own next Dino! I for one have learned much! This 08232 was my Chairs flares as well. I have spent a lifetime following Dino knowledge...I never seem to get enough! https://www.motorclassiccorp.com/used-vehicle-1974-ferrari-dino-spyder-factory-flares-and-chairs-c-43/
You are correct, I checked my original Daytona seats (rather than old photos) and there are indeed 9 strips, as you say the 9th one is well hidden from view. I wasnt sure just looking at the old photos but Isuk is correct in the spacing of them. Tony
It is a tempting idea to flog it but I think dino prices are on the up and havent finished yet.........inflation busting too.
Or start another one dedicated for them and ask mods to move all relevant posts to it ? Perhaps even make that thread into all things Dino interior ? That way all relevant information would be easier to find in the future and not buried under this thread title.
Your original seats are vinyl. Is it the case that the base of the Daytona style inserts made from vinyl have 9 black strips, BUT, those made from leather should have 8 strips as per factory original, in line with the factory picture posted by @isuk?
There is certainly much less "give" in the vinyl than there is in natural leather which will stretch over time so it is a possibility the vinyl version was different with an extra strip added as the cover may have folded differently over the foam cushion to the leather version. One thing is certain... Ferrari did not put in extra cost where it wasn't going to be seen. The Dino interior was hardly built to luxury standards with mainly fibre glass mouldings, hardboard door panels and door bins that were shared with Fiats etc. Placing an additional row of insert strips into the leather covers would add extra manufacturing time and cost and they wouldn't be seen when tucked under the front cushion so it seems unlikely. The original sets I saw at my trim shop had 8 which is why I said to copy them instead of following O'Rourkes layout which had nine. It is apparent with the Dino is that many cars were retrimmed from the original Dino vinyl into leather as vinyl dropped out of fashion and was regarded as a budget material. Many of the trimmers who did this simply replicated the pattern of the vinyl interior i.e. the copied the vertical centre strip from the heat stitched vinyl pattern inserts and replicated it with a stiched in leatherstrip instead. The factory leather interior did not have this strip. The other error they made was to replicate the one piece door card and then stitch a replica of the heat stitched ribbed centre panel section. The factory leather interiors had a two piece door panel with the ribbed central section of leather being mounted on their own board over the top of the main door card. If the vinyl version of the Daytona inserts had 9 strips then it is possible that trimmers copied this when making new leather interiors if the vinyl version was all they had to go with and this has then become the accepted style over time. There are certainly more restored cars trimmed with Daytona inserts now than when they left the factory. I have photo's of 3 cars with their original "Monza" interior seat centres (basically the Daytona seat inserts but where the main colour deviates from the rest of the interior of the car). All three of those have 8 insert strips on the base section with the 8th being right at the bottom edge of the return under the front cushion base and utilising the same spacing as the factory picture I posted in post #157. Perhaps Matthias will be able to shed light on this one for us all?
Could be, I can only vouch for the vinyl version unfortunately........I'll leave it to the other connoisseurs.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Good Eye... At That time circa 1986/7... I put this car through a body on restoration in Bedford Hills NY. I was always buying F car parts from all the distributors, Knew all of them by first name basis. I distinctly remember Ted Rutland Himself pitching me on these Real Daytona seats...They were $1200 a piece and the leather was brand new unused Perfect. I bought them and kept the old ones for another non Chairs and flares car I was restoring.. In Total I went through 5 Dinos in 6 years...So much Fun!
