Can someone post a picture of the bracket/mount that holds the washer fluid bag used on the early cars. Also, if you could comment on, how the vinyl spare tire cover mounts on the cross member! Is it just glued down?

    Thanks

I'll work on getting you a bracket photo. The front edge of the vinyl cover was just glued down on my car. I removed it to clean and service the battery and spare tire area, then ordered some edge trim from Amazon to make future removal/replacement easier.

Just looked at mine, and there is no bracket. Just two of the Tenax style fasteners as used to hold the dash cover over the fuses/wiring. The ball studs for the fasteners are mounted directly through the fiberglass of the spare tire well, with a nut on the inside.

There should be a rubber moulding piece that holds the spare tire cover down. No glue. The same moulding that holds the other three sides of the tire cover down.

My 77 car does not have the other three sides held down by a molding. There are screws through the vinyl covered alloy paneling.

I was able to source a NOS spare tire zippered covered as used on the early cars. I agree that this is fastened down with a threaded screw.

Found the Tenex fasteners and now just need to find the other piece hold the bag in place :)

For reference my car is 21291

    Cheers

Does your car also have the 4 threaded tabs as in my picture a few posts ago?

Mine has screws on the sides, so I would say no to the threaded tabs.

I’m just driving my kid to Phoenix and will be back next week, maybe we can continue this conversation once I am near the car.

    Thanks

OK, on my 22127 the metal plate that supports the cover is bolted on the side and rear.
The lid seal that pinches the sheet metal basically goes on top of the screwed plate.

But it does NOT have the raised bead edging on the front as in that photo, in fact as OP describes it simply wraps across the raditor support and glues down with contact cement.. Soft washer fluid bag.

Be glad to get some pictures soon....

Thanks Alan! I pulled a few more pictures off the web just to add to the confusion ;)

My car (July 77, 22027) is as the center photo. I have, however, replaced the contact cement at the front edge with panel edge trim to make it easier to remove and replace the cover when required.
