I bet it has something to do with the Modena facility not being able to do both at the same time? Though there certainly did that with the old factory. Everything is very different now.
It also could be Dealers calling their customers to get an upcharge sale of the spider. Who really knows? But Alfa stopped 4c coupe sales in the USA first and then completely a year later.
Maybe you didn’t see my earlier post that explains it correctly. It’s also easy to find on the Internet. “The reason Alfa stopped selling the 4C coupe is a little complicated and a totally different situation than Maserati. US government made it cost prohibitive for FCA to deal with two car certifications, so just they did the Spider and moved on. The coupe needed a newer version of side curtain airbags, the spider being a "convertible" didn't need it. The cost was going to be prohibitive to make the major changes to the car for a version that was already reaching the end of its production run.”
There may be a bit more to it than that. For one the 4c wasnt fully cooked and really didn not sell in any significant numbers. The MC is selling it seems as fast as they can make them. As you say the motor will be used elsewhere, so its tooling for the body and suspesion to recoup. Im pretty sure theyre well on the way to doing that. Each car they sell ,akes proft ad goes some way to repayign the devlopment cost. lamborghini has sold the hurricaine for many eyars, i expect the Mc 20 to stay around untill demand drops. porche sells tons of suv's because the porche brand has its foundations in the 911. I doubt that from a purely yearly financial perspective the 20k 911s make sense compared to the rebadged audis porche sells. But the reason they can sell so many rebadged audis is because the 911 creates the cred. the MC is the car upon which the maserati halo will rest.
I went on an 7 day Adventure Drives rally in BC Canada A month ago and also a different one day rally in Vancouver BC and the MC20 was clearly the car that got the most attention. The rally organizer said it had the “best presence”. And every time I drive it here locally there’s people taking pictures and thumbs up every time. I’m not an expert on this and maybe Ferraris and McLarens get this kind of attention but I think the MC20 brings it to a different level mostly because like you say it’s the most beautiful!
In China, the feedback from the owners of MC20 around me is also good, and they think it is a sports car suitable for daily driving. I am very interested in the track version and electric version in the future. However, I have watched some test videos, and because the weight is much heavier than the official statement, the acceleration of MC20 is not 2.9 seconds, but between 3.1-3.8. But I found the owner's test on a Chinese forum and the car can do 2.8 seconds in death mode

Ya, that's what I am thinking too. Gun metal gray with bird case rims. Then I can add some cool accents or wrap it.
It's so wild how limited the choice of color is available. I have been at my local dealership and they have absolutely nothing on the car. It's like shooting a dart on the color and hope it's gonna work. Having owned a sky blue on my 1961 3500 that color would also look great on the cielo. At rate, I will go there today to put in my deposit and see what happens.
Any color is available thru their Fuoriserie program. https://www.maserati.com/us/en/brand/fuoriserie As long as you write the check. Pick your color.
The Fuoriserie website just shows examples. As italiancars says the factory will paint the car virtually any colour you like. You just have to submit a request to get a price.
Speaking of RED MC20's, they have a red one at Naperville Maserati Alfa now. Will get photos of it tomorrow as they have an open house to show off the new Maserati SUV wich looks like a Porsche.
Now that I have put my deposit on my car. I am now sitting here waiting for approval. Building a car at a Maserati dealer is not an easy task. It took me 4 hours to get all the correct codes. Even after choosing all the specs, their system would not allow me to add a full carbon exterior. Their system is like from the 1980's LOL. I am expecting to be in the car for 340K with the 39K carbon fiber options. The production of the Cielio is very low from my understanding. Let's hope the car doesn't depreciate like Mclaren.
Red MC20 at Naperville Maserati Alfa. This car really looks good in any color, but maybe lighter colors are better. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
