Yes, I confirm he died yesterday, after suffering since several years of a big illness. Materazzi was the Ferrari "turbo engineer", as he arrived in Ferrari in 1979 as the turbocharger specialist to support the under development F1 turbo engine program. Moved from GES (Gestione Sportiva, racing department) to GEI (Gestione Industriale, street cars production) in 1982, he was the project leader of two cars and four street cars turbo engines: 288 GTO (all the car), GTB/GTS turbo (engine), F40 (all the car), two liters TT 348 engine (400 hp, but never produced).

And he also was the chief designer of the Lancia LC2 racing engine, made at Ferrari factory.

Without forgetting the 288 GTO evoluzione development, stopped in 1986 by FIA rulements change.

    A legend.

    RIP

    Ciao

    PS
The drawed also the 348 gearbox

As you said so well, there is no myth without a legendary man.
    Sad news.
The best way to pay homage to him is to re-watch this interview with D. Cironi

    RIP

I just watched the interview- the image of the 288 GTO has been on my mind after spending last week in Monterey.

I had no idea he passed until reaching the end of this thread.

    RIP what an amazing career..

Yes, and not only: but I was talking about what he did while at Maranello only. He Also did Lancia Stratos Turbo, Cagiva bike racing, a BMW M1 Procar tuning and many others

One of the greats! Where it not for the enormity of the corporate brands he worked for with he would be up there with Shelby, Chapman, Murray or Newey IMHO. RIP!
