Dashboard on 360 needs repair leather bubbling
Our 1990 TR dash looks as good as the day it was installed. It never ever gets parked outdoors with out a custom fit windshield cover in place. People tease us because it doesn't look cool but a screwed up leather dash can be 5 grand or more to fix. 5 grand I'll never have to pay.
Ferrari surely need to go back to the days of old, when they built interiors to last 35 years. Why after the TR and the 348 , they went straight downhill with their build quality is a mystery in my estimation. G
Yes absolutely I was looking for suggestions on repair of the wrinkled leather dash and has anyone had the dash removed and then have problems after it was reinstalled with the electronics Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
John - may I make a suggestion: try ten words not one and if its a question use a question mark as both your initial threads read like statements with limited coherence - you may well find similar threads to yours over the years in the 360 section answering your queries as there is a lot of experience posted by others
Thanks for the suggestions greyboxer I’ll try to make my post more coherent and specific. Have a great day my friend.
In the early days they never used leather on a dash. It was painted or vinyl. A clown climbing the ladder there thought that looked cheap.
I am certain so but like anything else some people can break a steel ball. Choose a qualified shop, many exist. Its not rocket science and can be done well. Many have. Having been in the business a long time I find prevention vastly better that repair.
Johnbabb, where do you live? I have a guy that did my F430. Several things to watch out for when doing this. You can learn from my mistakes. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I’m in CA, so that won’t be any help to you. The only way to repair your dash is to have it removed from the car. You can’t fix it by removing the windshield, squirting glue under the leather, etc. Order two new metal defroster vents from RIZZO on this Forum. The stock ones are garbage plastic that pop loose when the leather shrinks, his are billet aluminum and install with thru bolts, large area washers for underneath, and stop nuts. Once you have your dash removed from the car, be very careful picking an upholstery shop to re-do it. The leather must match in color and texture, and the threads per inch on the stitching must match the existing stitching. My first attempt didn’t and I went through some grief correcting it. Im with rifledriver every single car I've ever owned in my entire life since high school I've had a custom fit sunshield just a cheap one from K-mart back in the day and now Walmart!
Thanks Extreme1 for sharing your experience. I will definitely be careful finding a reputable upholstery shop that can match the leather and the stitching. I saw a video on YouTube of removing the dash and it seemed a bit complicated. I’m just a little gun shy seeing all the wiring, screws and connectors. I hope i’m not opening a Pandora’s box and that the Ferrari mechanic who takes it apart will be able to put it back together properly.
