I recently took my F 12 in for its annual service at the authorized dealer and unfortunately they left the car out in the sun baking for about 10 days. This is a car that sits in an air-conditioned garage unless it’s being driven. Now I started noticing that the leather on the inside door seems to be coming detached. It started as a small bubble and it’s growing. It seems like the dealer is saying this is ordinary? Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Leather shrinking with Ferrari is definitely a know issue so it is not just unique to the F12. The adhesive they use weakens with prolonged exposure to high temps. Typically it occurs on the dash. I keep my car in a climate controlled garage as well as having the leather conditioned annually for this very reason. I also schedule my service in the cooler months and pick it up as soon as it is finished (my dealer has it done in 2 days.) I see cars sitting out in the sun before an after service everytime I am there, it gives me anxiety for those owners.

Hopefully it's an easy fix for you since it is on the door panel. Best of luck!

I have this on my doors. Little bubbles now on both sides. I also had to replace the leather on the dash binnacle. My car is not often in the sun but still happens.

Yes. I never had a problem until my dealer left the car baking in the sun at 130° in South Florida for 10 days. I’ve had the car since 2015.

This is sad….I feel for you. Wow and have to leave car for 10 days for its yearly service…unacceptable and have a car like this sit outside the whole time! What Ferrari deal treats a car like that?
My local dealer..Tampa Ferrari books the service and I either wait for it for a few hours or pick it up later that day.

On another note cars this expensive should be designed and use the best materials, period! For leather to be falling apart in a car only 7yrs old and probably little miles is not right. There is zero excuse for this.

My experience with dealers is they lull you into a false sense of security and then they do the stupidest stuff. Just saw them drive my Ferrari up the curb a couple months ago at the dealer, fortunately it only scraped the tire and not the wheel. My Maserati, they had a recall on the door window switch, when I finally removed the panel to cure the correct window alignment they screwed up, 8 of the 9 or so plastic clips were broken off. Bought a brand new Range Rover. Had a cracked black plastic window/door trim. I said if it's too much trouble or you risk breaking or damaging another part, I will live with it. "oh, no problem" they told me. They damaged another adjoining panel by prying against it to get the broken one off. They offered to fix that, but I just said, enough, I'm good...

I had this with my passenger door, and the dealer charged me $1200 to fix it.

Pretty common. Mine went from a small bubble to completely detached after sitting outside while in for service.

Gosh, it might be worthwhile only having leather on seating surfaces. I'll be okay with that. Of course, the headliner probably still gonna sag.

The leather on my passenger door has a slight sag close to the pull handle. It’s not bad but I notice it. There’s a shop close to me specializing on Ferrari’s and they told me they can fix it but their backlog is so large right now with vintage cars that they told me they might have to have the car for several weeks. They told me about $800 to repair.

800USD seems like a ton of money for a small sag... Couldnt you inject some glue with a syringe behind the leather? Ideally going through a seam, but even going through plain leather will probably be almost unnoticeable. You dont need to have glue covering the whole sagging area perfectly either, just enough close to the middle of the patch would probably be fine.

I scheduled my car in hot weather in Atlanta and it came back with sticky buttons so best to schedule it in cooler months if you are in a warm climate. Ferrari leather is very sensitive to temperature changes and problems are common.

I do like my 488....beautiful car, fun to drive.

However I've learned from owning it and other high end cars that they are no better built with better quality parts than any mid line vehicles I've had.

Both panels around the door handles have pockets of air behind them. Noticed it a few months after bringing the car to LV. Dash is starting to wave ever so slightly, so I know that's coming too.

I have an F12. Dash leather was repaired by Dealer just before I bought it and there are a couple of bubbles depending on the temp. which I saw when I received it. If you read the Forums, Ferrari's are notorious for leather problems. Price is not necessarily an indicator of quality. The two best built cars I have ever owned were a Lexus and a 2012 Jaguar XKRS I still have with 25k miles on it. Even the floor mats show little wear. First oil change at 15k and never burned a drop. Amazing car which is why it is one I still own, other than my 1986 911.

Yeah, I remember when shopping there were at least two F12 I saw less than 5 years old with fresh dashes.

As an aside, that I remember a full cream interior XKR coupe had the best smelling leather I've ever experienced. ~15 years later, I can still recall it.
