I got that. My comments were based on the amount of time between the collision and when it rolled beyond any chance of ejecting.

I was thinking the doomed aircraft rolled intentionally to follow the leader, and then lost control because of the damage.

Maybe but if he was aware of the contact and he rolled it that low he was not very bright. I'm not a pilot but 1st move I'd make is to get some sky under me. If thats not possible throw away the airplane.

He probably felt the contact but didn't realize the extent of the damage, or how the aircraft would handle.

At least he went out with a bang !

And we saw the wisdom of that.

The Russians have some really miraculous ejection seats, but I am not sure they are fitted to the Su-25. Even if they are, you still have to pull the handles.

    easy ingress and egress.

Donor MiG-29's should have the old radar stripped out and replaced with the best new components from Raytheon. Perhaps a bunch of experienced techs could modify the jets. Plenty of the MiG-29's floating around in and outside of E. Europe. Hi-time TACAIR U.S. volunteer Aggressor pilots would have an excellent opportunity with a target rich environment. Ivan choose the same course of action from 1950-1952. I believe Ivan did not spend much cockpit time in the late stages of the K.W.

Oh good. They can paint a leaping Tiger on the side of the airplane.

xi would love the Flying Tiger motif.

    74th Fighter Squadron - Provisional :D attached to the 23 F.G. (P). Historically accurate.

    Unfortunately no hand-painted leather patches.

+ the obligatory red stars under the MiG's cockpit. That is kewl.

Plugs put the kibosh on Warsaw Pact planes to Ukraine. This should be reversed. Backfill with F-16s. Ukraine should also get ACTACMS , and a generous supply of M1A1s. This war would be over real fast.

Why does it have to be Block 30 American F-16's ?

Let the W. euros donate some Eurofighters and get their hands dirty.

    W. euros need to demonstrate resolve.

There are no good guys in this fight. "Our enemies enemy" is not always enough reason to get very deep in.

The difference in price between an old F-16 and a Eurofighter is pretty substantial. We use early F-16s for target practice for AAMs.

Who will supply the F-16's ?

    W. euros should make the effort and not wait for Uncle Sam to always provide the hardware.

We have F-16s in the boneyard, even early C and D models.

There are something like 24 F-16s and 24 F-15s (numbers might be off I think it was around 50 planes total) coming up for retirement at the end of this year. Those might be the first “lend lease” a/c to be sent. I believe both are C/D variants. The US will not send a/c for free in presidential drawdown as they have for other packages. It would only be through lend-lease (return them later or buy out) or an outright sale as a business gov-gov transaction.

The US is going to want so get some product in Ukraine for familiarization for a potential sale as the Ukrainians are gearing up to buy 78-108 gen 4+ aircraft a-la the f-16/Gripen to modernize their air force.

When I was a Crew Chief during my first enlistment, I worked block 25 F-16Cs and Ds at Luke AFB. My assigned jet, 83-1161 is currently at Holloman AFB being converted to a drone. She'll be blown to smithereens someday....sigh.
