I think you'd fine there would be the same number of posts in the Official Book Collectors Thread about non Ferrari books there too.
Well since F chat is a Ferrari forum, whether non Ferrari books are discussed on one combined thread or on their own, I can't see any difference.
I don’t really care because this thread would have just cluttered the book thread anyway. I was just making a point.
This month, the "Most Stupid Offer of the Month Award" goes to a seller who thinks that he can ask a price of almost 20,000 USD for a "Miura book collection", which consists of the Kidston Standard Edition, the Register and five rather worthless books about the Miura: https://www.ebay.de/itm/234650026623?hash=item36a23b427f:g:kYMAAOSwQJli7mUE&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoADcldolABpu8pDRj1C0ud3vXdI9NOMVRG9PAxQT5VwylpSvuZFqN2Qf6udGbCo7II7eOkBel2BMHxmoHegGoBHfBKB51uhcdDRmGpDYQEqnBtTkOmfHoebDDU%2Bmxj6OxhNSa9pMhLsTbCceOoN7re%2FF9eE%2FwedCquWE9OdjuRTz6%2FnwItj8XLKmpnv%2FwGNImS1yUc%2FoJXASe00zOPbVYSk%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-bonP_dYA Good luck my friend! You won't get the money, but at least, you won an award.
I agreed with you up until the "worthless books" statement. The Miura Bible is a rare book now and not cheap at all - was the previous go-to reference before Kidston's Miura book. The Osprey book is also a little gem and again not that cheap to find in good condition without a faded spine. I haven't seen the Bob Wallace book but heard good things (Harry Metcalf reviewed it and gave a positive recommendation). Plus it's limited in production so since I'm assuming it's out of stock again wouldn't be cheap. The other two books are much more common and agree, not worth that much.
Hi Mark, as a non-native speaker of English, sometimes there is the danger of missing the point a little bit. ;-) Yes, the Miura bible is an absolutely great book, which indeed is a reference work. But what I meant is that in Germany you get a copy of the German-language version for 30 euros! And I never noticed the other books to be traded at high prices as well, at least to justify that price. It’s a far journey up to 20,000 USD.
Hahaha I fully understand. I've heard that non English copies of the Miura Bible are very cheap- certainly not the case for the English language version. Yes, I agree the asking price is way too high !! He can ask but wouldn't get even close.
You can call the guy a clown or opportunist, but let us wait and see. Apart from the Kidston books and the 40 year old Coltrin/Marchet book, there is no big deal in this selection. I've seen the overpriced Bob Wallace set, not my cup of tea (badly written and/or translated). The so-called Miura Bible is not much of a Bible, it was just the only book available at the time, and is indeed not worth more than Euro 30,-.
+1 spot on. My primary source for years was the Coltrin/Marchet book. I have the Bob Wallace set--yes it is overpriced but I was acquainted with Bob so I had to have it. The Pete Lyons Lamborghini book doesn't break any new ground but it includes an excellent interview with Bob(BTW no one addressed Bob as Bobby). The modestly titled Miura Bible is virtually worthless IMO, a few nice photos.
Set? Were their different versions of it? I have a single paperback of what appears to be the same book that Christina Guizzardi, Lamborghini's "tuttofare", gave me years ago while in Sant'Agata.
Same book, they just added a pair of gloves, and put all of it in a box. Looks nice, short on substance.
Just sold yesterday in Bonhams Goodwood Revival auction: The Lamborghini Miura; a leather-bound Limited 'Jota' Special Edition, number 27 of 75 'Jota' Special Edition. Sold for £9,562.50 including their high buyers premium. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Someone just made a nice quick profit. No 27 sold on another auction site for £4580 only a couple of months ago. https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/lamborghini-miura-jota-edition-book-gzyvP8
No. 27 had also been offered in May 2022 at another online auction. Let's hope, the book found a nice, cosy place in a great collection - the owner of which enjoys the incredible smell of leather and the fantastic book itself.
Just four days ago, this Jota online auction ended with just one offer at USD 5,000: https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/dealtank-the-lamborghini-miura-jota-edition-book-by-simon-kidston-1-of-75/ Seems, it's better to go to a "real" auction with a distinguished audience than trying to sell it online.
That was my auction. Worth a try but I agree with you, perhaps not the best venue for selling this item as I think the market for a book like this is quite narrow. No criticism of PCar Market at all, however. They were great to work with and obviously quite effective in doing what they do. I will take $7,500 for mine, buyer responsible for arranging shipping/local pickup, if anyone is interested in purchasing within the next 1-2 weeks.
Agreed! Jota Edition book #27 has been flogged mercilessly in all sorts of venues - eBay, Car and Classic, Bonhams, etc. Hopefully, it will now settle down to a quieter and more stable sort of life...
