Ferrari Artwork to be featured at Mecum Chicago Oct. 13-15th

Remember the film Ford v. Ferrari? Well, this is a 20" x 30" canvas print enlarged from a smaller original painting of the Ferrari that challenged Ford Motor Co. at LeMans in '67, the P3/4. The 200 mph plus car thrashed Ford at Daytona in '67 but was\totally out numbered by Ford GTs at LeMans.
The print was further embellished and signed by the artist, a well-known Shelby biographer, who authored a biography of Shelby that sold 50,000 copies. \
The price shown is just an arbitrary guess as to what it will go for, based on the price the same artist sold another of his Ferrari portraits (of a P250) for at auction in Monterey in August. It will be crossing the block at the Mecum auction at No Reserve. It can be bid on online prior to being auctioned in person at the Schaumburg Convention Center either on the 14th or 15th and physically picked up by the successful bidder by the 15th.
In the past, Mecum's Road Art section was primarily devoted to children's pedal cars, gas station memorabilia and dealer signs but fine art is a growing interest.

True but most people have no idea what "Road art" is. There was a LeRoy Nieman Ferrari painting in the Monterey Mecum and sold it for $11,000 so I think either more Mecum customers are attuned to exotics than I thought or maybe there are collectors of his art who go to every auction. Anyway the term means more than pedal cars and neon signs, and maybe the mix depends on the city it's in and the audience. Monterey would have the most sports car fans for sure. One thing I didn't see is collector books, so maybe the word "art: means something that is displayed....
