Cool video clip chuck full of Boxers: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CiCpOJ9qcyf/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I'm not buying into the numbers argument: Ferrari pumped out more than 1,300 F40s and those cars, with what is in reality a turbo 308 motor and built not even as close to the quality of the V12 Boxer, are selling for nearly $4 million. Mercedes produced 1400 Gullwings and 1,858 300SL Roadsters and they are over a million dollars. You are far more likely to see a 300SL than a Boxer. Likewise, Ferrari produced far more Dinos than Boxers. I wonder if we know how many Boxers are actually still in existence?
Tell your friend its missing the two lower gas tank supports that keep the gas tanks from moving side to side before the car burns to the ground. They're clearly missing in the photos that were on BAT so verify their presence or lack thereof. Its a nice boxer but not one of the very best in the world.
I was the bidder going against you and felt when u jumped to $280 u were prepared to go much higher. LisaG3 is my Bat Accct
BTW— yes— much higher— my max number was $375K— maybe crazy to most but I really wanted that particular car and life is short so I would have been ok with it.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Thanks - been a long journey and I am pleased to have found the “right one” having been sorted by prior discriminating ownership (one being a friend who owned it only a couple hundred miles ago and who had FNE perform the major in 21’), and in preserved original condition. Attached are a few additional pics obtained from my friend prior to him selling the car in 21.
Congrats Randy, great looking car! I'm just north of Boston.. hope to see it around sometime.. never seen a BB in person. I have a 512TR on the way from Switzerland. Also let me know if you figure out how to change your screen name!
Good day all, Just another data point...Chassis 30387 (1979 BB) sold today on BaT for $318K USD https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-ferrari-512-bb-4/ Cheers, Sam
Neither are F40s , 288 GTOs or for that mater Dinos (for God's sake WHY is a Dino even in the same ballpark ?) I've said it before; Boxer > 288 GTO. Compared to a F40 ? Now thats a different matter. But a Boxer compared to a Dino = Godzilla vs Bambi !
i tend to agree. but what i think John was referring to is that the boxer is a flat twelve vs v12, or also known as a 180 degree v12.
GTO is special for all sorts of reasons. One could argue though that boxer is closer to being a12 cyl GTO type car than it is to say a testarossa or a daytona both of which are big relatively ponderous GT cars. The issue with the boxer is the tires, esp on a BBI, they confer neither steering feel, not lightness, and have really crappy grip with awful characteristics at the limit. Because theyre metric, theyre not really changeable to more modern transformative rubber, if you're keeping stock wheels. Given that car "collectors" are all about originality, changing the stock wheels appears to be a bridge to far, even though some boxers did this in period and went to p7s.. What's needed is a magazine test of a sorted boxer running 17 in rims with 225 fronts and 255-275 rears. Add to that a motor thats truly on song with ac that works and you'll see an article hailing the boxer as the holy grail. Alternatively go with 15 inch wheels like the daytona lemans cars had, and avon race rubber for same effect but sorta stock. the boxer has always been on the cusp, it just needs a little nudge. If etypes can get restored but with unseeable upgrades, thats the path for boxers.
It’s not that Dinos are overvalued, it’s that Boxers are ridiculously undervalued. They just aren’t yet understood by most.
Good day all, Yet another data point...Chassis 19343 (1976 365 BB RHD) sold today on BaT for $391K USD https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-ferrari-365-gt4-bb/ I wonder if the final price would have been different if 19343 was a LHD car? Cheers, Sam
Hi all! Been away a while. After 16 years of owning my 512i here's what I would change: not much. To be honest she has MSD ignition, rewired starter solenoid/cabling, a non-orig coil, and Birdman's fuseblocks. A/C compressor seized 8 years ago; now is a York unit compressing not-R12. That's about it. If I lose one of my Coker TRX tires, I will probably retire the other 3 and get a 17" lookalike with modern rubber. Still is *totally* fun and engaging to drive and waaaaaaay slower than an Tesla with the nuclear option. But who cares?
The TRUE Ferrari geeks get it. The poseurs, fad chasers and "Latest and Greatest" purchasers don't. Same reason why I retired my Rolexs and wear the much more highly crafted oddballs.
