My rear diffuser has a lot of scuffs from rocks etc. it’s otherwise in good condition but I think repainting it in black would be good. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good spray paint I could buy to repaint it? Some sort of flat/matte black. Can do the job in my driveway.

Basically you would need to sand, prime, sand, paint, sand and paint again for more durability. Then wet sand and buff all with a gloss enamel paint. You should be good to go. Rust oleum makes a good paint for plastic

Thanks for the advice! Since the stock finish is a matte, is there a good flat or matte black paint you recommend rather than gloss black?

I have the same situation. I believe both you and I drive the 458s harrrrrrd. I think of my damaged diffuser as a 'badge of honor'... ;)

I hear it's not that hard to fix. Someone quoted me about $2500 here in NorCal recently.

I love shops that try and rip us off just because our cars have a Ferrari badge on them. $2500 is a total joke for repair!

You can literally buy a new carbon fiber diffuser for $1900…

    https://exoticcarbonfiber.com/product/ferrari-458-rear-diffuser-assembly-with-fins/

Or a brand new OEM diffuser for only $1200…

That diffuser is not brand new. Check the last pic in the listing.

Simple fiberglass DIY repair; sand smooth, prime, paint. I intend to refinish my F8's front and rear diffusers over the winter. No big deal.

Yes I believe I have the right paint. I'll snap a picture of it when I get home. I had the issues with the front of my F12. The area where the vents open to cool the brakes. I sanded it down really with really fine sand paper than taped it all off real good and then hit it with a coat of paint, let it dry, then hit it again. Turned out ok.

I was told by a retired Ferrari tech last week to lightly sand around the rounded edges of the bottom of the fin then put a coat of clear finger nail polish on the area. Then I assume paint over the area but I’m not sure what kind of paint.

Another consideration would be to have it wrapped in satin black PPF, then it’s protected as well.

BTW, a black sharpie does well for small touch ups!

The PPF will get torn up pretty quickly I would think.

Thanks. What grit sandpaper? Is it more than one grit? What primer and paint exactly?

For those of us with no experience with this, if you could tell us the make/model of the type of primer and paint that would be very very helpful!

After the first scrape I put small sacrificial edge seal strips on mine. The u channel pinchweld type. They stay on during a track day and if I get home and one is missing I know it was sacrificed to a great cause.

Sure. Took me a few goes to find the best ones. You only need to cut off a section of 3-4inches and then press fit onto each diffuser fin.
Search ebay for “edge seal pinch weld”

Just finished sanding, marking with a black Sharpie, and then I’ll ‘seal’ with clear fingernail polish. I purchased these edge strips as well. Seller on eBay was ‘caiyanyantiger (89004),$23.11 for a 15ft strip. Thanks for the tips guys!

Just a clarification. When I said it took me a while to find the right one, I meant it took me a while to find the right *style*. It is the pinch weld style that you need. You don’t need to buy from the seller in the picture, you can buy from anyone who sells that style. Some sell it in a couple of different section widths so just make sure you get the width that fits the diffuser fin. I think it is just the larger of the two options from memory.

Great information. Do you have any pictures of it installed on your diffuser?
