What are peoples thoughts on 07/08 F430s with 30k or 40k miles? Have always believed cars driven and serviced are more reliable than cars in the garage with 6k miles over 15 years.

Not purchasing for investment, purchasing for fun and enjoyment but do want reliability. Do not know how Ferraris generally hold up over the miles, most are low miles that I run into.

    Appreciate the groups comments

Higher miles. Mine has 39 on it now bought it with 24. Cars that are driven tend to be in better condition.

We have 30k on our '07 and it runs and drives flawlessly. We sought out a higher mileage car so any kinks would've been addressed, the price of admission would be lower, and I wouldn't feel like I was crushing the value every time I took it out. We bought it to drive, not stare at it in the garage.

This has always been a interesting topic for me when it comes to low vs high mileage ferrari's here is what I have learned over the years of reading and observing:

1-Ferrari has a unique car company perspective/goal: "Build the car around the drivetrain" their engine and gearbox are meant to be utilized for its true intention, High RPM, sound from the exhaust is like music to your ears, and they accomplish this with dam close to bulletproof drivetrains.
So like many of you stated buy one with higher mileage No problem providing you have 100% confidence it was well taken care for by a professional technician.
It is so true any vehicle that has been well maintained and driven daily will feel good...

2-Now the flip side low miles mostly garage kept..You will pay more for these vehicles not 100% sure its worth the extra $$ only the purchaser can answer that question.

There is a fine line between high mileage "WELL" maintained cheaper to purchase vs High mileage not well taken care for.

I've heard this saying go around "If you want to buy a expensive Ferrari buy one that was really cheap initially".

Purchaser do your homework and bring someone who is very knowledgeable about these cars if its not yourself...from a technical perspective these cars are very straightforward they do have their own uniqueness but nothing a good tech wont understand.

Last but not least Ferrari parts are expensive...especially if they get delivered with a yellow/black box and a prancing horse insignia.
FerrariChat has been very insightful where to get these parts at a significant discount with no compromise to quality.

Bottom line: These cars will put a smile on your face standing still or breaking the speed limit.

Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the family.

Its hard to quantify genuine low miles with a Ferrari, and more often than not at some point most have been clocked! Ferrari is the most clocked car!

I have seen below 10k mile cars that are shocking and no way have they done those miles! The tell tale signs are all to present, but missed services should ring alarm bells, attaining its value more is better to lose a service than it is to add miles!

I have used various specialists across the country and they are ALL united on one thing, these cars mechanically are better if they are used and have miles on them.

These cars are also falling into the "buy on condition not miles" if you want to use it rather than not!

Make of that what you will.

I was skittish bringing that up, but agreed, a clocked Ferrari is not uncommon. It's really F buyers' fault, as so many hold way too much value in a low mileage car. It simply results in unethical people rolling them back. I stumbled upon the option to clock my car while hooked up to my Launch. Really blew my mind how easy it would be! I don't know if it would just clock the dash or if the ECU retains actual miles or not, but how many buyers would even dig in that far? My advice would mirror the bounty hunter above, buy on condition. If find a 7 owner, 5k mile 430, it's probably BS:D

There is various places you can check, but I believe all can be hidden now. Probably the best way is a gearbox read (I believe its logged in the gearbox ECU) it logs the miles the car has done in each gear so I am told. My Tech checks it as part of a PPI extra, and going back when I was buying, the 3 cars previous to one I bought all had massive mileage differences! either that or had the gearbox ECU changed at some point (as this was the excuse used each time)

    Its a bloody minefield!

Or just make sure you have a regular service history from a reputable shop that shows mileage in. Even cars that sit for years should have regular fluid changes. I would be hesitant to buy any car that has few miles and very few service appointments.

Look at the pic above showing the guy with the Rosso Spider that drove 250k km's. You can only imagine the fun he had in those km's. And; I have way more respect for him than for someone letting it sit for value's sake.
