What did you think of the Daytona?

It wasn't just the Daytona. It was driving one at speed on Fiorano. When I rounded the last turn on my first lap and had it on the floor going under the bridge, hearing that engine and holding that big steering wheel with the horse in the center was emotional. I never saw myself ever doing that and I have wanted to since I was 12. I waited 42 years for that moment. One other cool thing was we were all given a micro SD card in our welcome package (as well as some really nice buttery soft leather driving gloves). Each car had a Go Pro set up and when it was your turn you loaded up you card and recorded your track session. I have every lap I did in every car on my computer. Even when I was on the skidpad.

Ah OK. I assumed Classiche is any car before a certain era or cutoff year.

 

I believe there is a minimum age for Classiche, except for the Supercars.

 

We also had a 2000 or 2001 (not sure which) 550 Maranello.

I'm feeling old now..

 

That makes sense. So anything older than 20 years can be Classiche certified. That brings me back to my question, why the 308 and not the 328 for example.

Well, we did have a Mondial 3.2

They swap out cars so I am sure the 328 will appear eventually.

I enjoyed the 79 308 probably the most because of the sound. The QV was an 84 like mine.

I've driven a Daytona on track before and they are lighter than you think, but still a handful... but I'm sure a Factory maintained one would feel great.... that is amazing. we're heading to Europe in 3 weeks, so I'll have to do this the next trip! looks amazing

 

I didn't throw it around into corners like I was doing in the 308's etc.
It was there for us to just enjoy a few laps in. Just to experience the car.

At least that's how I used it.

 

The tall tires and lean really caught my attention ... but the car I was driving was a well used / loved one at Robeling road.....so I was at 7 /10th max. .... the rear really floated on the throttle...

 

As much as I’d hoped this program would be a “learn to drive your classic to its max potential” school, their idea clearly was to offer a classic driving “lifestyle experience” to current clients. (I was the only one in my group who actually owned a 308; others had more modern cars). From an economic standpoint, if they were looking to provide a vintage stick shift experience, the 308s are relatively abundant-enough if one gets messed up, not heart-stoppingly valuable, easy to service, and not too overpowered for track novices. That was as vintage as they practically could go and still maintain a regular fleet.

As an aside, I saw a 30min YouTube video by someone who participated in Tommy’s session, and assumed the Daytona was a customer car (it’s an option to bring your own classic Ferrari, provided it’s been through Classiche certification). I’m gobsmacked and jealous that it was a classic academy car. For us it was only 308s and Mondial. I would’ve LOVED to have driven a Daytona!

Seen Through Glass just put out a new video on his experience with the program too. I loved the fact they still have the Daytona there and hopefully they bring out additional 50s/60s Ferrari's into the program in the future.

 

Tommy, I assume the 84 QV was a euro version, no? If so, how did it compare to yours?
