Hey guys, I am considering purchasing an 812 Superfast. I have owned just about every luxury / exotic car brand except for Ferrari so this would be my first. I am heavily considering this car to be my daily driver. Would love to hear current / previous owners opinions on the car, good or bad!

I took it to lunch today and was extremely impressed with how comfortable and easy to drive it was. I must say the gear shifts were incredibly smooth.

For reference, the car I'm looking at is an extremely well optioned 2018 (white over black) with tons of carbon, sport seats, passenger display and more.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

It's an amazing car and one that certainly can be driven daily.

Gone are the days when these cars would do your head in if you had to daily them.

Comfortable, plenty of boot/trunk space, fast and fun when you need it to be and docile and calming when you are cruising.

They can be a little mileage sensitive, however this is the complete opposite to Europe where you see them with 65,000+ kms on the clock.

I’ve put on 22,000 miles on my 812 in 2 years. Can easily daily drive it, and then go have a ton of fun any time you want. It’s been reliable for me, couple little things done under warranty. The oil solenoids on top of the intake, the plate had to be replaced as well as the gasket. This is a common issue, seems to be related to if the oil gets over filled (which is exceptionally easy to do). I also had a wheel speed sensor start reading slightly outside of normal. It didn’t throw a code, but was found during the annual maintenance and they replaced it at that time. I drive it pretty hard, and it loves every second of it.

I find the 812 to be very comfortable to drive, even with novitec springs. It is extremely sharp, and I find myself trying to redline at every chance I get. I generally leave it in race, and only hit bumpy road mode if I’m on the freeway cruising, that’s how comfortable I find it to be. Between my F8S and the 812, I’d grab the keys to the 812 first 9/10 times.

    It’s a great car, can’t go wrong.

Thank you! Nothing is really preventing me from the purchase. I'm essentially just waiting for my buddy (who owns the dealership) to finalize the deal with the previous owner and then it will be going directly to me. During that time, I figured it was good to do a bit of market research to see if there is anything I'm potentially missing that an established owner would be able to provide insight on. Based on the responses, there seems to be nothing holding me back.

Amazing insight! When driving it to lunch, I was really surprised at how comfortable the car is. Not only that, but when driving in a civil manner, it felt as comfortable and quiet as a Bentley.

This is amazing to hear. I definitely won't be putting that much mileage on it, but I truly appreciate the information. Love that you have the Novitec springs on the car as that's something I have planned. I have HRE standing by to make a set of 21/22 wheels with my tire connect holding a set of Michelin P4S tires, Novitec springs and my local shop ready to build a set of downpipes for the car to wake it up a bit. I might be getting ahead of myself, but what can I say, I have an addiction and I'm feeding it.

If you go with a full exhaust (downpipes back), be forewarned the car is exceptionally loud. With valves open it is effectively straight piped with aftermarket mufflers. It will be deafening for those outside the car when it gets up in RPM.

MP4S tires are strongly recommended, much better than the P0 in my opinion. I run them through the summer and they do great for me. Novitec springs will make the car a lot flatter and handle much more confidently. If you're going to get aftermarket wheels, make sure the offset is correct for the Novitec springs, I have to run spacers with the stock TDF wheels. That way you won't have to run spacers.

Thanks again Stew. Regarding exhaust, that's what I'm going for. I spent last night looking up YouTube videos of 812s with aftermarket exhausts and love how high-pitched it can be. The louder, the better. I will definitely make sure it's valved so I can tame it down when necessary, but will most likely always run with it open. Completely agree on Michelin over Pirelli. I specifically run P4S on all my cars. I will certainly mention the springs to HRE to ensure the offset is proper.

I daily mine in the uk , winter tyres are a must for me , once those are on I can drive it all year round.
Mine is a 2019 pre-gpf car that I have owned for 2 years, I have been offered more money to sell it than it cost me.
I haven't sold it , so read into that what you will

I'm located in Florida so no need for winter setup here, but that is great to hear. I haven't done much research into GPF, but I can say the 812 I'm looking at is a 2018 which would be pre-GPF.

Enjoy and good luck with purchase I have an F12 but have seat time in the 812. They're both daily drivable so to speak but I will tell you my 2017 (Gen 2) R8 V10 Plus was a better daily driver. Much more rapid and smooth DCT. Much easier to modulate throttle and the suspension was more supple with road conditions. I'm also in Florida. However, the Ferrari is more playful and alive. It begs to be driven. The R8, and not an insult to it, it's an awesome car, but it's German precision. It's almost too good. Makes it feel sterile in comparison. Both equally quick. If you haven't dabbled with the R8 / Huracan variety you should test those out. Also McLaren has some fun offerings 650S/720S I think drive exceptionally well too but the woeful reliability issues, albeit I've heard are getting better, steered me well clear. It's definitely a driver's car and a blast to drive though!

Thanks for the information! I absolutely love the F12 as well. I have owned many R8s in the past (one V8 and two V10s), but none of the current generation. I sound like a broken record, but I really was insanely impressed with the comfortability of the 812 and how easy it was to drive. I'm not a big fan of the Huracan so not something I would be interested in. I already have a 675LT Spider, which funny enough is the most reliable exotic I have ever owned. Out of everything I have and have had, my 675LT is my all-time favorite car to drive. Appreciate the response.

That's awesome on the McLaren I do hear some good reliability stories here and there. I loved the 650S so I can only imagine the 675LT. Huracan is low slung and cheap interior and hard to get in should take a look at Gen 2 R8 but only V10 Plus. Better interior and more head room than Lambo. The base models feels anemic. Otherwise I think you made up your mind the 812 is awesome! Post up when you get it.

There’s almost no GPF 812 coupes in the US. Post summer break of 2020 I believe was the cutoff, and they weren’t producing many for the US at that point. GTS on the other hand is a different story.

Just out of curiosity, what's the big difference between GPF and non-GPF cars? I did a bit of research, but don't really understand what it actually changes on the car. Is it anything noticeable?

Exhaust is noticeably quieter and has a deeper/different tone. Plus it is a performance drag since it’s restrictive like an extra cat (though they claim the power output is the same). Wouldn’t worry about it unless you were shopping for a GTS, which I believe 100% of them are GPF.

GPF will be quieter and more restrictive. Just go exhaust like you planned. I already have a Ryft race pipe and Capristo X pipe just trying to find an install date with my shop. Going to wake the dead with mine. :D

Going to utilitise factory muffler with Capristo valve controller. For now it's capped open on OEM exhaust to hold me over.

I have a ‘20 pre GPF 812. Love it. When I went to the GTS launch, they started the car. I literally did not recognize it.

It’s a huge deal. Yay, tree huggers; hope you're happy.

The PPF is not about the trees, it is about human health. Do you know what the particulates do to your lungs?

Do you know what lithium batteries will do?
And we are talking a few thousand Ferraris doing a few thousand miles each year.

The PPF has nothing to do with lithium batteries. Hybridisation is another story altogether. Every bit counts though, even when speaking about limited run supercars. Now, do you know what particulates do to our lungs? Can you say, with a straight face, that we should not address such an issue?

This is an odd forum to be discussing acceptance of lack of performance and sound on exotic cars. I’m out; have a great one.

Lack of performance, you say? Cars are getting quicker all the time. Yes, the sound is not the same, but I prefer healthy lungs over deafening sound anyway.

Have a nice afternoon, sir. :)

Everything in life is a risk. Driving a car spiritly is more risky than your claim. Injury or death driving a vehicle is a much higher risk. Do you know how many people die from car accidents a day? Having an exhaust note that brings a smile to my face wins over your argument and it's so minimal. There's more harmful things to be exposed to. Do you wear a tin foil hat and not use a cell phone or not cook food in a microwave too?

Risk should be minimised. That's why you wear a seat belt and have airbags. Same here with the PPF, protecting your health and safety.
