I believe this is the same car. 1978 930 Turbo, chassis # 9308800162, PTS Caledonia Green, sold at Gooding Pebble Beach for $478K. https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1978-porsche-930-1 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
1200 was more of a charcoal grey metallic (tan seats/brown dash top). Advertised at the time as Anthracite/Cork. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Understood. It was listed as A2 A2 (black metallic) but there were variations of that color. It’s interesting that it appears that the last ~20, 1979 930s 1181-1200 (11/79 VIN decals) were black variations and the first ~10 were PTS with 12/79 VIN decals. The middle numbers were a mix but silver metallic may have been allocated to 1163 to 1169, and guards red 1175-1180. There’s no question that the Porsche factory lumped chassis numbers with color allocations for the last 50 cars and the last 1979s to actually leave the factory were PTS. Ending today…. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-74/ chiffon white = GREAT color on these
Another “low-mileage” BAT fever and once again, this one didn’t feel quite right. Repainted gas tank, driver’s seat wear inconsistent w/ mileage, molested rear deck & door panels w/ aftermarket speakers, and no documentation of mileage. Most importantly, it would have been nice to see the VDO date stamp on the 85 mph speedo (can be done in less than 5 minutes). Finally, the A/C knobs just don’t jive w/ the speedo mileage. Got a couple pics of this car, a one-off 1975 tail-less turbo (chassis 9305700162), at the Audrain concours earlier this month. Nice to chat with the owner as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
How many pasha were made?- I have one and I’m curious as don’t seem to see any others?- mine is tobacco metallic car with black and matching tobacco patches.
The main purpose was to provide stability and downforce (it worked well enough that they needed a front lip spoiler to help keep the front down at high speed, that's why you don't see any 911 with that tail and no front spoiler). This was a super cool car, though, had no idea the factory made such a beast back in the day. Apparently the factory forgot about it as well; the owner showed me an article about the car in 000 magazine, it was the cover story for that issue.
75 930 had a listed top speed of above 155mph (250Kmh) but Paul Frere had achieved 170 mph. I read that the curved rubber lip on the early whale tail at around 150mph was forced flat by the wind pressure.
Any thoughts on this Canadian 81 930? This is more or less the same as a US 78-79 car, isn't it? Looks to me to be a very nice example... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-porsche-930-turbo-12/
. 1978-79 3.3 Canadian 930's were different from their US cousins only in the speedometer (KM vs MPH) and the Canadian VIN and Transport agency decals in the door jamb. VIN sequences were lumped together. Later build, 1979 NA (US and Canada) Series 2 930's, had differences from the earlier NA 3.3's. While the 1981 Canadian export 930's continued with those changes they had changes the '78-'79's did not. Those were; 930/60 motor rated at 300 HP, dual left side exhaust outlet, and changes to the brakes which included front fixed rotors in place of the earlier floating rotor setup.
So for comparison, what is the horsepower on the 78-79 US cars? Also, it's funny, this one seems to have a US door sticker indicating compliance with FMVSS... or does it say "Canada standards" in small print somewhere?
