In that case, he needs new plates for steering column and door, as frame rail, sticker (bar code), and warranty book all match. Correct?

No, I think he should leave it the way it is. It's original to the car.

And a cop with a hard on stops him on a Friday night and sees non matching numbers? He'll spend the weekend in jail and need a lawyer Monday morning.

Agree. Get it rectified. You’re asking for all kinds of trouble.

Whoa, sorry for the delayed response, but I see there is some confusion. To be clear, the stamped VIN on the frame rail next to the engine matches the VIN sticker and warranty book.

The VIN on the steering column and inside door plate match.

This is what I’m thinking. It sounds like it’s unique but not uncommon, so I believe this is special to this car.

    Did you run both VINs?

Yes, the seller was honest with me when I purchased. I knew both VIN’s and the one with the warranty book and stickers had the most info on the car and service records, where as the steering column VIN only showed owner change and title info.

Do you really think a cop is going to look at all the vins? Highly doubt that will happen.

I'd have your local Ferrari dealer run the vins in MODIS and see what comes up. I am sure one wont work and the other will.

If I am reading correctly, there are 2 cars that exist with each of the VINs, so "both" numbers are actual cars?
