Hi Mr Z Only these photos Roger posted from November 2021. The car sat unused for many years. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, according to Prestige Cars the car has always been Rosso Fuoco, so correct as originality goes. And yes, it is rather refurbished than "restored", I agree.
Here’s a few pics I took today at the Audrain Concours in Newport, RI, thought I’d post them. Beautiful car and the owner seemed like a nice guy. I did not get the number, but from the concours guide this is the 1974 Turin show car, originally Celeste Chiaro over Senape leather. It is unfortunately not uncommon. Sad as red really does not suit Khamsins and Celeste is a superb color showing ll the nuances and details of the design. This is AM120-246 in Celeste, one of the most original cars, photographed August 24 2010 on the day of the eight Khamsin meeting near Zurich. It is now in Germany. Thankfully in recent years the trend has very much been to return cars to their original colors so hopefully this one will be too. Thank you to Audi 328 for the photos, I have written to a friend who was a judge at the Audrain concours to get in touch with the owner. And no the Trident in the nose grille is not original (the factory did not put any on the the K's as they felt the nose was too low, the angle too acute but I like it, I had one on mine at the end. I just realized my post was confusing, sorry. The red car shown at the Audrain concours, Rhode Island, USA , chassis number unknown, was manufactured in colors identical to the light blue "Celeste" tan car, chassis number 246, of which I posted photos for comparison. It is not the same car. My email has now been forwarded to the owner of the Audrain concours car so hopefully he will get in touch with me and will share its # and history.
Agreed. Maybe even higher. And has been discussed often, the terrible rear bumper and glass treatment for the USA cars hurt it a great deal also. But of course this can be corrected.
Hi Marc To me this car is #088, previously with registration ED 021 SG, which still shows underneath the current registration 3VAR 44. Regards, Roger
Dear "Sherlock", Well done again, you are absolutely right. For an American or US resident to acquire a Khamsin in Europe and bring it to the US is highly unusual, only a small handful of Euro K's have ever set foot in the US. The well known trend since the 1980's has been the other way round for many cars; about half the 155 US Khamsins are now in Europe. So this is an interesting development. Here is the photo I had of it. AM120-088 was sold new by Thepenier the french Maserati importer on 15 Juky 1975 to Mr Vilaseca in light blue (Celeste) with white interior. It was in France for years in the Paris area, there was a rumor it was owned at one stage (not new) by star actor the Jean Paul Belmondo who passed recently but it was not substantiated. Then it was consigned to Gallery Aaldering in Holland, where the new owner probably bought it. Now I recognize it, among other distinctive traits the front lights stick out of the bumper which needs to be corrected. I would not even have considered it could be a Euro car, was sure it was a US car fully converted so I did not see the forest because of one tree; I was focusing on a mystery, K also red, also in Massachusetts but it is NOT this car, a different one.
Hello Strange to see this car #210 for sale in La Coruña, northern Spain, after beeing sold in the US at auction and caliming single ownership from new! https://www.motor-klassik.de/maserati-5-spd-2-122545355/ I wonder if they are just in-betweens, or if the car is in Europe. Roger
Yes and they announce zero added miles since the Bonhams Quail Lodge 2017 auction. The photos are old from 2017 or earlier. Here is the catalog page. https://www.bonhams.com/auction/23977/lot/71/1976-maserati-khamsin-chassis-no-am120-210-engine-no-am120-210/ It was bought new by a Guatemalan who had it in his country for a while but also had it in Europe. He sold it with a lot of group B cars at that auction. Here some photos I had. The ad you found is a mess; two different mileages shown and it says automatic when it is manual.... Who knows where the car is.... At best it has sat for FIVE years, not good...at worst it could even be a scam, I get that vibe.
Hello Marc I found this picture of a golden Khamsin in Japan, no clue if it is 0054 or 0152, but for the first time with registration number... Maybe that helps to find it? https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t1066898948 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Surprised no one else posted this. Khamsin #146 sold $124,270. http://www.artcurial.com/en/lot-1975-maserati-khamsin-4284-44
Hi everyone I live in the UK and very tempted to pull the trigger on a Khamsin. I just love the styling, how advanced it was for the 70s, the power is decent in by today's standards and its so easy to drive long distances and in traffic. The two things that I am not sure about is firstly how difficult parts are to come by when things inevitably go wrong or fail. Secondly there seems to be quite a wide variation in price. Currently these 2 are on the market in the UK and at face value its difficult to see why there is a marked difference in price. Would appreciate if anyone has some knowledge on either of these cars: http://www.legendsautomotive.co.uk/showroom/carNew/1977MaseratiKhamsin https://www.graemehunt.com/inventory/30/1979-maserati-khamsin
Well IMHO the description of the second one spins quite a yarn when it talks about 0-60 in 5.6 seconds with a top end of 170 mph. With proper gearing you might be able to achieve either of those independently but not simultaneously. The red one has had a refresh but that paint isn't exactly stellar looking. I can't beleive they did detail The mileage is much lower. These photos are far more revealing than those of the less expensive car. So are you actually getting a good look at that car?
thanks for that, yes I can't see why its more expensive but because there are so few RHD Khamsins I don't have a feel for prices at the moment.
If this is an actual photo of the Rosso Rubino car when it was at Omicron the restoration must have cost a small fortune. The name of the shop is Omicron; like the virus - not Omnicron. Omicron is well known for their work on Lancias. You may want to give them a call, I've found their staff to be helpful. And talk to the folks at McGrath as it appears they have been servicing this car for many years. Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello all, Quick catchup as I get restless on holiday: -Roger: I have no photos of 152 the second gold car in Japan but this one has the same mirrors and of course is smooth nosed as well so it could be 0054, number plate also four characters but on your photo it is at an angle whereas in the show below it is straight. -Joe: 146, just sold for €141120 by Artcurial in their Paris auction is one of the few French cars I have never seen. It spent years in Besancon my ex's city not at all where you would expect a K to be found. The photos Artcurial used were actually an old shoot from when they ran the car through auction years ago. That was the 2016 Le Mans Classic Artcurial sale, I did not attend that year, it was bid to €160K but did not sell at the time. It was sold new June 24, 1975 by Thepenier the French importer to the LOOK Company, Mr Beyl, who had made his fortune with his LOOK ski bindings. It was Argento (silver) when new). -Martin: Welcome to the K thread The first car offered by Graeme Hunt is nothing special plus read does not really suit K's, too naive, plain a color. The second one, AM120-351, was owned for many years and probably still is by Jonathon W. who came to KHAMSIN QUARANTA in it. He and his wife are very nice people. He is a specialist of old war planes and thus very knowledgeable engineering wise. Decades ago he had an extended driving ban...during which the car was left outside...in English weather. That prompted him to have it fully restored by Omicron. This was the subject of a huge 1986 multi part article in the long gone fantastic magazine Supercar Classics. I posted the entire six part series in this thread 11 years ago: below is the link. It is most interesting reading. Link to the first post below, the others follow: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/maserati-khamsin.187217/page-92#post-140294938 Note that all are fully readable so anyone even slightly resourceful will figure out a way to read them using the magnifying option or save each page and enlarge. K people usually are resourceful;-) However by the time K40 took place in 2012 the paint had not aged so well. The car has since been repainted in 2018. It is Burgundy, dark red, that works well with tan. I represented the car for a while a few years ago and one client went to his estate, they drove it up and down the long driveway and it ran well but the deal did not happen. I would think this should be a good car pending it having not sat for too long and an inspection. Here a couple of photos of it during K40 in Burgundy June 2012. I am not involved in any way. I have sold 22 Khamsins of course mostly left hand drives but there is a right hand drive I can offer. If interested PM me your email.
