Uh oh. I would be shocked if Ferrari won’t void your warranty. That said modern Ferraris are pretty reliable so you’ll probably be ok.
These second hand lux car dealers are pretty shady and will tell you anything to sell a car. The rubber meets the road when Ferrari NA gets involved and there are lots of posts about these mods on the new f8 and how even dealers can be powerless to allow warranty stuff since the factory will ask for computer diagnostics to determine if mods have been done? I would just assume the warranty is shot and put away $ for potential repairs.
That’s an awesome F8, congrats! Si far I have kept my 458 stock thinking that best for maintaining value, is that not the case?
I do not own a ferrari yet but hope to soon when my mclaren 650s sells. A 488 spider has been my goal but I drove 6 fast laps of Monza in an f8 tributo 2 weeks ago and wow. (Very different experience to the Dalara F3 that I did 30 laps in that day) f8 on par with a friend's 720s but ferrari is where I'm going next. Just hope not spoilt by the f8 drive. I kept my 458 intact as well and I don't like doing mods to my cars. However, an exhaust can add a ton of great sound and improve the driving experience a whole lot. I think it's worth it for the turbo-charged F8 which sounds pretty quiet compared to the 458.
458 with any good exhaust (my fav is Capristo) will never hurt value and sounds amazing. Nor will wheels (just keep original).
I have a Capristo in the 355 and it's amazing. What I wonder now is if having installed the iPE to the F8, it'll void the warranty.
Thanks for US Legislation named the Magnusson-Moss Federal Warranty act, it cannot void your warranty. Yes, Ferrari cannot and should not cover any issues to the exahust, but anything else is not impacted. The law basically says that the modification must reasonably be the cause for any denied failure for the manufacturer to be on legal ground for declining to cover the issue. I once had a BMW Dealer try to void my warranty on a 2500 mile M Roadster for putting ATE Blue Brake fluid (specs superior to OE Fluid). They quickly back-pedaled once I quoted the above law. Dealers may TRY, but if you are informed of the law you are in a good position!
I went in with all kinds of questions reg the lack sound for the F8, but as soon as I pushed that red button and went out the lot, I was sold in 5 min. It does sound amazing, especially on the downshifts. Btw the cold start is nuts!
Not true. There is a guy here (I’ll find him) that know even more about these laws and he’s been very prolific about the lack of protection from MM. Here is one thread from another member https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/exhaust-and-wheel-upgrade.629689/
That is a low blow for them trying that on a brake fluid change but thats what one can expect for buying a BMW. Ha Ha.
The guy is @todd cloud that seemingly knows a lot about the legal aspect. Maybe he can chime in as I’ve seen a number of his posts regarding this topic over the years. Not sure what he does for a living (seems legal). Also here is a response from a Ferrari service manager about it in Atlanta from another thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, my JD (Law Degree) and 20+ years of owning an aftermarket tuning business says I know just a little about what I am saying, but to each his own! We also sold packages directly to dealers (Mercedes for AMG vehicles). I am extremely familiar in theory AND practice with this law. I have had this discussion with over 100 dealers for clients, including Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and yes, Ferrari. As I said quite clearly, the modification has to be a reasonable reason for the failure. So yes, TUNE the ECU and the engine fails - that is a connection. There is nothing AFTER an exhaust, there is nothing that changing the exhaust can impact. As posted by the dealer "If Ferrari can determine that you added a component that can cause the failure" they can decline to repair THAT system - not any other unrelated system. And no manufacture can void the warranty in full for components that have been changed unless the entire vehicle has been impacted, hence my brake fluid story. I will also say that our Ferrari, owned since new, has had wheels/exhaust since day one and there have been no warranty issues.
