That sounds right. The 488 seems to be about 10-12mph faster on the straights than the 458.

Lots of factors come into play, including the need for increased braking zone, the fact that you’re in a street car, etc.

I don’t wring out the 458 on straights any longer, the thrill is the technical portions.

6th gear redlines at around 170MPH on the F8. If I could drop it into 6th at 220 the engine would be doing well over 10,000 rpm.

Most mild hybrids can’t use e-assist at top speed so it would have the top speed of a 663hp car, not an 818hp one..

What track do you know of where you can hit 220 miles an hour?

The 296 is not a mild hybrid, it is a PHEV. It can use its battery up to its top speed, as the electric motor runs through the gearbox, thus not being limited by its RPMs. The 296 is considerably quicker than the F8, acceleration-wise. Top speed might be limited due to gear ratios and/or aerodynamics. It is interesting that Ferrari states that both the F8 and the 1000 CV SF90 Stradale have a top speed "in excess of 340 km/h", given that the SF90 destroys the F8 in every other metric.

    296 is fast with the shorter gears. It does 100-200 km/h in about a second faster compared to the F8. (F8 5,4s / Pista 4,8s / 296 4,5s / SF90 4,2s)
The acceleration of the F8 / Pista is noticeably slowing down when shifting into 7th gear while the 296 just keeps running through 7th and 8th like there's no wind resistance at all. 200mph won't be hard to reach for the 296.

Amazing how we’ve progressed in the past 30+ years. Recall going all balls to the wall in my ‘89 328gts on I-90 way West outside Chicago. Thought 165mph was euphoric enough for a diaper change.

In that case, a 296 may be able to very briefly go faster than an F8.
The battery is rated at 7.45kWh
The electric motor is rated at 120kW (164bhp)
That means that starting with 100% state of charge, the battery would theoretically power the e-motor for 3.7 minutes. In reality this duty cycle would harm the battery so the real world cycling will probably let it go down to 20%, which should happen in 2.9 minutes, assuming there are no thermal limitations.
By those assumptions you’d have a range of maybe 3 miles during which time you could drive faster than an F8, after that the battery is fully depleted and you are back to what I said: the top speed of a 653 hp car.
This 220mph run lasted 1.34 minutes so it would be within what a GTB could do I suppose.

In qualifying mode the charging is so aggressive while braking and accelerating that you can’t empty the battery at all. You can do run after run.
Taking the car from 0-300 doesn’t even drain 1 single kilometer of electric range (which is exactly 25km as stated).
The car recharges from 0 to 100% in about 25 minutes of regular city driving. On the highway, you can charge the entire battery up in like 15min, depending on the driving style.
As said, the car is noticeably faster compared to the F8 and also feels so much faster. No chance of going full throttle in 1st or 2nd gear. Even the exhaust note is much more present and louder compared to the F8 and SF90.

So this thread has devolved into the 296 being faster than an F8.? Well off topic and frankly, many/most F8 owners have little to no interest in a V6 hybrid.

Interesting, the F8 6th gear seems pretty short and the 7th pretty long, in comparison the F12 6th gear redlines at around 196mph, I never let the 7th stretch all its legs but reached easily 207 one time, no doubt >215 are doable as well.

Very interesting, I wonder then why the 296 has a substantially lower published top speed compared to the F8? (205 vs 211 mph).
If is also odd that Ferrari wasn’t able to do as good of a job with their torque management by gear (“no chance of going full throttle in 1st or 2nd gear”). I can mat it from a dig in 1st just fine in my F8 because the car does not run full power until 3rd; this is in the promotional material and is also obvious if you watch the boost gauge; full boost does not come until 3rd.
    Spinning isn’t wining ;)

Dealers did a good job getting people who couldn’t get an F8 to put money on a 296. Somehow they have to justify their decision :p

Could be about battery power management or protection of the electric motor from over-reving.

You mean with the manettino in its TC OFF setting?
