This will be my first Ferrari. What is a good insurance company that would insure a $250,000 Ferrari in Hawaii? I have State Farm for my regular cars but have heard that "super cars" are better to have insured by specialty companies. Any recommendations so I can start making some calls?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Hagerty is the best in the business.

You may find lower cost options but be sure to read the fine print regarding driving restrictions.

As a first time exotic owner, Hagerty may not insure you. If not American Collectors Insurance is another popular choice.

I would make sure you get an "agreed value policy". That's where you tell them the amount you want to insure the car for up front when you create your policy vs the more traditional "stated value" where the insurance company decides what your car is worth when you make a claim. That is the type of insurance most specialty insurers offer. State Farm does offer this (supposedly), but I was told I'd have to talk to an agent to get it and the agent I found had no idea what I was talking about. Hegarty is kind of expensive but a lot of people like them. I Got pretty good quotes from Grundy and American Collector, who I ended up going with because they offered a discount for being referred by my normal insurance company and Grundy's web site was practically impossible to buy a policy from.

No Kidding about Hagerty, not just first-time exotic owners. They didn't consider my 996 GT3, which I have owned since new, as an exotic and they didn't count my Lambo back in the 90s since it was so long ago. I went with Condon Skelly, but I'm in NJ. They don't have a mileage restriction and can do agreed value which is very important for these types of cars.

I have Grundy and for the longest time I was only paying around 1,300 a year. However two years ago that skyrocketed to 2,400 a year even though I had no claims tickets or any changes.

I tried to get Grundy, but they sent me a policy where it was saying "not covered if car is used for regular chores and drives".... so I called them back, and explained how the raised finger looks. If I go to the supermarket and someone scratches my car, they won't cover it ?? F**CK that.

Geico since, paying 200/month for 4 cars, including the Ferrari (and I have a kid on my policy which had a accident at fault....)

Does GEICO have an agreed value? I’m paying that just for my F let alone my other three cars.

Unfortunately not; they are deciding at car value on what it would cost to replace it when you make a claim... I insisted on doing agree value but they won't. Shopping around, looks like the next best I can get is Hagerty for 1759 per year (130k agreed value) . Hagerty will not deny claims if it was a Supermarket run or the like...

I found Grundy and Hagerty to be complete rip offs. I recently insured an F430 with an "agreed value" policy for $150k with State Farm (full coverage no mileage restriction) for $800/year. Now I'm 70, perfect driving record and use State Farm for my daily divers for me and my wife.

Grundy & Hagerty maybe ?? and I mean maybe ??? Ok custom hotrod one off kind of build not for cars that can show current values and previous sales.

Very close friend of mine has CS low mileage under 10000 miles & 430Scud less than 8000 miles & GT 40 less 2500 miles.

All Insured with StateFarm each one less than 900.00 bucks per year

I actually called State Farm after making this post. We have 9 other cars with them and I think both of our houses and they said the CS would be less than $100 a month. I specifically told them to have the liability at a $1,000,000 like I do on all out cars and their max agreed car value of $240,000, and they said that's all good. Seems odd to me, so if I end up getting the car for sure this week, then I will definitely be wanting to sit down with them and really make sure I am as covered as I want to be. It sounds good so far though and I was very surpriced. Something like $87 a month. Married in my 30s and 2 kids not even close to driving age.

I have State Farm for my 2017 Porsche. State Farm in Florida won't give a low mileage deduction so insuring my F430 costs just as much. I use gaherty for my F430 and my 996 Turbo. Its about $800 a year, no more than 2500 miles.

I hate to point out the obvious, but It's really hard for everyone to compare insurance costs. Location, driving history and many other factors contribute. Just because someone in Florida pays $800 a year doesn't mean someone will pay the same in Hawaii or New Jersey. Auto insurance varies a ton per state and a lot based upon the underwriter's decisions on risk for the individual or vehicle being insured.

Do you think it is only $100 or less because of your 9 other cars with them? (Btw that is a LOT of cars for a young couple. Lol)

I got closer to $300 because it'll be my only F car with State and my other 3 with GEICO, and I only put the car value at $150K for the F430 with maxed-out coverage for everything else. Per the comment below perhaps largely due to the area since everything is pricier in CA because it can be. Haha.
Are you in your mid 30's or at end of your 30s that could potentially be a factor too in pricing? I'm approaching mid 30's :)

Perhaps the most valid point yes. All factors are most likely but the location is for SURE because I experienced that firsthand. If your house is in a guard gated community or not could potentially be $50/month savings alone. And if your zip code is in the fancier parts of CA, up the premium by $100/month, that person can afford it. It's the world we live in...

    Absolutely.

The Key wording is "Agreed Value". It is the only guarantee that you will be properly compensated in the event of a loss.
Run from State Farm. I say this from a horrible experience with them on my previous 3.0 Carrera insured by them promising everything providing nothing of what they told me.

I now have American Modern (and have for almost 2 decades) and no issues so far --and I did have a few claims with them.

I generally have found that insuring my fcar with the same company who does my house and other cars and umbrella liability gets the best deal. I got a price from hagerty and it was insane.

I have an agreed value policy with Cincinnati but I am shopping all my insurance with State Farm and the prices are comparable.

State Farm to my knowledge does not offer "Agreed Value". I say tread very carefully. Cheap premiums can quickly become meaningless when a serious claim is filed. Ask me how I know...
