Me? If I go, I’ll follow Atomic’s advice. I’ll watch them stage the cars from the parking lot and then hit the bar.

zero, I don't have any ownership in Canossa, Luigi doesn't have any ownership in FerrariChat. Motorsport Network has ownership in both of us, but no management overlap or oversight. Luigi has control of Canossa. I have control of FerrariChat. I've met Luigi and emailed him before. I actually think we should work more closely together he could promote FerrariChat and include us in the event, then we could promote Cavallino event & magazine in return. Luigi doesn't have much interest in that for some reason, I've found that most Motorsport Network companies don't work together much except sharing press releases.

Not working closely within the Motorsport Network of companies is a surprise to me...especially the tremendous potential for "cross promotion" between Cavallino (Canossa) & FChat as a considerable number of Ferrari followers may source their Cavallino info thru/from FChat.
    Seems like a lost opportunity.?

I agree, we have less to gain as we're more about numbers, but we could certainly help their subscriptions, entries, and even spectator tickets. One thing Luigi and John do have in common, is some adversity to online.

That’s a great question! I’d have to pull up my old photos to try and answer a specific year.

It would also depend on what “period”.

In the very beginning Cavallino was massive with numerous vendors and dealers. There was memorabilia on sale everywhere and all the dealers brought cars to put on display. The track event was a major show in itself with the best of the best running at speed as God intended.

Then they decided to not let the dealers display modern cars on the field as most were using it as a “covert” sales tool. They also cut back a bit on the amount of vendors and merch. They still were packed with cars. The backfield went all the way west to the road and the front lawn was jammed with the best of the best.

Years later the Breakers altered the layout of the front lawn leaving a little less room for cars. The track event dropped way off due to the loss of factory support for the Historics. The backfield brought in a little fewer cars than years past. We still had the jet hanger and rally but without the track focus things started to slide a bit into wine and cheese.

My favorite times were the earlier days. I can’t express how epic it was to have guys like Shirley and Benny Caiola there among many others. Benny was giving people track rides in his F40! Everyone was outgoing and down to earth. It felt like a close knit family. It was nothing to see GTO’s, pontoon fendered TR’s, Pappalardo’s (spell?) epic cars, 333sp’s at speed with 512 BBLM’s, etc. One year they had four 166 spider corsas! Art’s F50 GT!!! Lol, I still remember when Symbolic showed up with an original transport that I believe Mr. Shirley bought on the spot. The year I helped Jeff Fisher debut his 212 export was pretty unforgettable.

The key thing I remember most is that people were there out of passion for Ferrari. They eagerly shared that passion and comraderie with everyone and anyone. There wasn’t an ounce of snobbery or elitism. Most of the major collectors of that time were track guys. They mingled in their drivers suits and were all very warm and engaging. The only requirement was love of Ferrari. Lol, there was zero mention of “brands” or jockeying for social status IMO.

I consider myself blessed to have witnessed a time like that as it will more than likely never happen again.

i went in 2006. ferrari car was daytonas. very disappointing showing. would like to see the featured model on the top lawn. that may help attract more featured cars.
also, more mechandise tents with vintage items, such as books tools key fobs parts etc.

I have heard that the vendor fee has gotten so high that it makes it uneconomic for most.

I have heard that they don't want any vendors at all, unless it is an officially sanctioned Ferrari factory store.

Interesting you say this. In July I was at the Ferrari dealer in Montreal during the FCA Annual Experience and my wife wanted to get something in their store, except there was no store. I asked the service manager and he told me that Ferrari made them take it out.

I’ve emailed them several times and haven’t gotten a response so far.

Traditionally there has always been an artist’s tent but I fear it will no longer be the case.

There is also no longer an option to advertise in the magazine with anything other than a full page ad.

Yes, but will the tortellini be made by someone who is related to someone who once met Enzo?

That’s too bad. The book vendors and artists were a big part of the show for me.

Gotta push the brand…the brand above all else!

I wondered about that as soon as I saw issue 250….no small ads. This is more proof that the magazine is now more about a particular look than substance. There can be no other reason. Turn down ads just because they don’t meet some style criterion? Silly. I bet two or four ads in a page could generate more revenue than a single page ad. So it has to be an editorial, not a business, decision,

The strange thing about “pushing the brand” is that they’re probably doing greater damage by not including stuff genuine car guys want to see as opposed to the corporate stuff. At some point the IG crowd will not get clicks from Ferrari and move onto something else… then they’ll have to market to actual car guys again. It’ll be interesting to see how those chickens come home to roost.

On my wife’s birthday years ago at Cavallino, Ken Dallison presented my wife with his portrait of her. That was special.

I agree with you, but so far, it doesn't seem to matter how tone deaf Ferrari is. They sell everything they pitch.
