Yup...I see it that was as well. I don't think Haas had malicious intend of robbing Alonso of his excellent drive, but more to point out the hypocrisy of the FIA, presumably in the hope to open up a talking point before the next race.

FIA didn't want to look stupid and gave this harsh penalty for fault of their own.

I agree with Sainz getting screwed by GR. But he had pole. He should have gotten to the corner first.

It must always be intimidating to be on the front line with Verstappen next to you !

so ~6mph advantage at breaking point, I'd have guessed a little more but in any event assuming that's non-DRS spee the difference once Max got within 1 second was much more.
Wish there was also some way to quantify grip since Lewis was on hards and Max on meds, both with similar age (~20laps towards the end?).
Sure seemed for at least a few laps Lewis was maintaining a 2-3 second lead (maybe due to Max's car's horrible "driveability"!) , then within a couple laps it was <1 second and bye bye....

Would be awesome to see "ghost car" laps to see exactly where Max or Lewis was faster.

disclaimer: all this only because Ferrari was out of the fight, I like Lewis (sue me) and tend to root for the underdog.
Nevertheless above all I want to see a Ferrari WC nearly as badly as y'all :)

P2 is better than P1 on that track.

    GR is an uppity clown.

At the the 20 lap tyre age mark, the hard should be the better tyre than the medium, especially seeing Max had to push it overtaking Leclerc and then being under pressure from Leclerc, whilst similarly needing to close the gap to lewis. The merc is very kind on it's tyres on top of all that.

After Max overtook Lewis, Lewis stayed close for a couple of laps but then started to focus more on what Max was doing, he locked his wheel and fell out of the 1 sec DRS range. It was Max's pace at this time that really impressed me, keeping enough life in the tyres to really hammer those laps in and get over the 5 second gap before the end was quite something.

Didn't LeC run his mediums about 20 laps, heavy with fuel, before pitting at the 1st safety car?
Do you remember what tires Charles finished on?
I don't remember Lewis gaining much ground on Max while he still had DRS. The RB is just the cream of the crop, and yes Max is one hell of a driver! Even if he does ***** and moan quite a bit ;)

We got to see a bunch of really good drives. Max going all out. Hamilton had a good race. Vettel was impressive and Alonso deserved better.

In hindsight, Charles should have let Max pass easily (preserved his tires) and then stayed in DRS range. Max would have brought him up to Hamilton. Ferrari is racing Mercedes - not Red Bull.

We also got to see the worst of Mercedes this weekend. George wrecking someone (again...) and Hamilton whining.

That's a good point RE Leclerc. Not wasting time and tyres could have seen him in P2...

The "old man" doesn't quit on the track.

We've seen him bring in a Mclaren in the pits on 2 tires.

His defense against Lewis for 10 laps at Hungary so Ocon can win was impressive.

And now COTA with the incident against Stroll to bring the car back to P7 finish....impressive!!

Give Alonso a top-notch car and a top-notch pitwall.....easy WDC title or titles to add to his resume.....no matter his age currently.

    [sorry furoni.....:D]

With all due respect to Vettel, I don't quite understand how he got DoD apart from him leaving at the end of the season and inheriting the lead for a lap. The aston was fast all weekend, that was very clear...With plenty of trouble ahead and a late pitstop, the lead was simply inherited. Alonso was the stand out guy of the race IMO. Genuinely in awe of him.
