I started a thread some time ago asking if you would do a PPI for cars sold at official F dealers, and the answers were overwhelmingly yes.

This new thread has a twist. Some F dealers far away from me are selling their cars as certified models, meaning they come with at least a full 1-year warranty covering major issues.

Therefore, in that particular situation (certified car sold by an F dealer far from your location), would you still do a PPI before the purchase?

The reasoning behind the question is that it's not easy to arrange a PPI far away from home and that a PPI can be done after the purchase. Why? because the car is certified with a 1-year warranty, therefore should something wrong show up during a PPI after a purchase, the car is fully covered and can be fixed by my local F dealer at no cost.

On a CPO I wouldn't require a PPI, but I would absolutely not buy it without flying out and inspecting it in person, with a paint meter. Even a CPO car can have cosmetic issues that may not be disclosed. Caveat emptor.

I purchased my car 3 years ago from a dealer in Chicago. We flew out from Seatle to see it and made a long weekend out of it. I don't think I could spend the amount of money on a car like this and not see what Iwas buying. Even thought it was a CPO car, seeing it in person brought me a sense of security that I wouldn't have had otherwise. My wife also found some great shopping there and marked the moment for herself.
Even thought it was a CPO car it wasn't perfect and there were things I wanted to fix. When the car arrived, these was some damage to the rear fog light surround which was repaired in the end. I did take the car after it was delivered to my local dealership and had it looked over. They agreed that the car had no major issues and said to enjoy it in good health. Nice to get a second opinion even after the purchase to be sure there are no major issues.
An inspection is always better before a purchase when you are spending this kind of money when possible. At the very least, view the car in person (if possible). If you decide to buy the car, have it checked out to make sure there isn't any major issues.

I have bought Ferraris without PPI as I mentioned on your original thread. With the examples you are mentioning, I would fly out, crawl all over the car, get a knowledgeable friend to do the same. Then you take your chances and bid. When you fly out to see a car it's easy to get carried away and much harder to say no and walk away than it is when it's around the corner. Don't let being away from home sway your decision. Good luck!

Ferrari Central Florida did a PPI on a 365Boxer years ago for me.
    Flying colors.
    Flew down to buy it
Totally misrepresented by seller and FCF. literally half the cylinders didn't fire. Repaint overspray everywhere.
Floorboards pierced from road debris. On and on. Joe's garage could have done a better PPI.
    WTF ?!?
They said it was the finest 365BB they had ever seen !
Turns out it was the only one they had ever seen. How funny is that ?

I keep the report on my wall as a reminder to never trust any dealer/PPI.

Not on a CPO car, but definitely need to see the car in person first.
