I don't get on here much but let me tell you, the 296GTB (even without AF pack) absolutely blew away the F8 in every way possible - even my Pista is questionable, really! I can't tell you how amazed we were with the 296, everyone was clammering to get rounds in that car. The F8 felt old, out of place, and not nearly as sharp, connected, or fun to drive! I am going to say that I think the 296 is one of Ferrari's greatest achievements and at this point starts to really make the SF90 (even mine) somewhat of a puzzling car that Ferrari might need to very quickly figure out.

P.S. That is my wife, I could not believe how fast she was on the circuit!

Agree, but should be no shock a 296 blows a F8 away or even a pista, I have had both, but to say the SF90 is a puzzling car is total nonsense. For the record I have an AF SF90 and no way am I saying that it’s Ferrari greatest achievement like you think a 296 is, I’m clearly old school petrolhead, but let me say the other day my car was serviced and it was taken back to showroom for collection and it was put next to a black 296 GTB. Car side by side one looked like a hyper car and one looked like Lotus Evora! It was startling to me how small and boring the 296 GTB was, albeit not in the best colour, let alone one is a V8 1000 HP Car v V6 800 HP Car. I’ve driven both AF SF90 & AF 296 GTB, and there is only 1 car I would take the keys for if I had to lay down the quickest time of the 2. All about opinions and debates but Ferrari knows full well the differences between their cars and marketing and prices accordingly. The positioning of the V8 AF SF90 will become all the more clearer when the LAFerrari replacement comes out with V6/V8 Hybrid and the SF90 VS is released..

Since you guys have driven both, is the dash, steering wheel and driver interface the same between the 296 and SF90?

Another question will be how the 296 GTS vs F8 spider is. Bought the F8 spider and “share” it with my wife. She loves the F8 spider design. She is less likely to push either car past 8/10s.

I have a GTS on order but did not do a test drive. Has anyone driven both a good amount ?

But you forgot to add the F8 blew away the 296 in the looks department!

I was also at the corsa pilota event last week and my thoughts are very different. I really enjoyed the F8 on the track and I absolutely loved my f8 spider and coupe that I owned. I liked the 296 as well and have a sf90 spider coming. If I had to choose between a 296 and f8, I'd probably pick the F8. At the event, they would give a lot of space between drivers, I caught up to a 296 on a couple of occasions in a F8. Yes, the 296 is faster, brakes better, and handles better than the F8, but I still would pick a f8 over 296 if I had to choose.

Can you pls clarify why you would pick the f8 over the 296? You just mentioned 296 is faster, brakes better and handles better…so is it that you prefer the looks of the f8? Just trying to understand your POV…i don't have either. Thanks!

I test drove both. The 296 handles better and is faster. I think both look great, so that’s a tie for me. I passed on the F8, but bought the 296 GTS. Two reasons. The power with the hybrid is instantaneous. Zero lag. Incredible. The shorter wheelbase makes it more fun. The F8 is probably a better cruiser than the 296. Both fabulous cars really.

I think the 296 is a great car and better for guys tracking their cars on a regular basis. Overall I prefer the looks and drive of the F8 for the street and it still does very well on the track.

I was at corso pilota as well . I have in order a 296GTB ....just to be sure to add at my pista a sister when the 296VS will be released . Overall the 296 is faster , braking better .... the steering is more " sensible " ..... for me more difficult to have the feeling with it ........definitely it brakes much better and the cornering speed is crazy ....F8 is more understeering
I'm decently drive for sure not a pro , but I was able to do a 1.28.7 with the F8 and I was not able to go under 1.30 with the 296 .......all the participants drive more the F8 then the 296 , maybe with more laps ......... talking with my instructor 296 is for sure better overall ...... in and out the track .

interesting, if it handles better and is more responsive as a few have said I am considering a test drive

not keen on the looks though but that's to be expected as all ferrari's don't like nice anymore pretty much

Had an SF90 on order until I drove it and immediately canceled the order (bought a 765LTS). Found it totally devoid of feeling and totally "machine like". I then wanted to make sure and drove it a second time with the same result. NOTE: Purely my own opinion. When the 296GTB was launched it was "love at first site" and the order went in as fast as possible. Drove the 296 on track and on the road and again instant attraction. The 296VS is going to be insane and thats the real goal.

Absolutely love it and it just "ticked all the boxes". Super light, insanely quick, stunning to look at and no penalty for being a convertible. In sport mode the exhaust note is incredible. To me it has hypercar performance and tech for supercar price. - Clearly I like it :) :)

F8 steering feel is a smidge better than the 296 IMO. The F8 is also roomier and a little rounder in response so arguably better for long distance GT work. I didn't find the 296 any more playful at the limit than the f8 either. If your F8 is understeering then it needs its setup looking at.

296 is more direct, more nimble and transparent with less play in its responses, and obviously a fair bit quicker (as if that even matters !)

Not bitter (will move into a 296 very soon), just offering another viewpoint.

Same. The only question is whether to keep the F8 and….

Agree with the sentiment that the 296 VS will be insane.

With all the back and forth - as was posted elsewhere before - this is how Ferrari sees the F8 v 296. Have only test driven the 296 briefly and never driven an F8 Image Unavailable, Please Login

Interesting, so Ferrari reckon a F8 is both slower and less fund to drive yet the 296 is not a replacement?
