Not sure about that, though the Prius is an undeniable improvement over the previous midel. It clearly copies design language from SF90 - headlamp treatment, side door/sill treatment. But it’s still clearly a ‘one box’ Prius design with bits borrowed from another manufacturer (no issue with that if you’re buying a Prius, just not a Ferrari). Doesn't anyone realize the lead times for design are @ 3+ years. Neither copied the other. Simple as that.
Very hard to say Toyota didn’t copy SF90. Look at headlight area and side door/sill. Two very unusual features debuting on SF90 and here they are again…?!
I often wonder if designers chat or look at some of the same things around the same time, so all of a sudden you see similar influences on designers in different places. Either way you're not going to confuse one for the other.
I saw that too! I was like wow - SF90 blade. Toyota has been copying styling tropes from Ferrari for decades, nothing new. The only time I chuckle is when you have a million Pruis' on the road and then some goober sees the SF90 headlights and says to their bloke, "oi, That Rari shameless in copying Toyota right?"
I agree on the totality of the design. This signature 'blade' headlights have been out of the SF90 for close to 3 years now. Headlights are the easiest thing to copy, as they are modular, hence every refresh has them. Image Unavailable, Please Login I mean the first gen Toyota MR2 design was infamous for straight cloning the Ferrari Mondial.
They certainly could have been influenced by the SF90. Headlamps are a long lead item. If you're going to steal something, rob from a bank (Ferrari) not a convenience store.
So true!!! Well said. I saw this 30 years ago with the MR2, nothing new, and I don't put anything past Toyota. Japanese are masters of taking (borrowing?) an idea and perfecting it. At least GM moved it down the mid line, and had some effort in differentiation form the Mondial.
I had your exact same feelings, I thought it was quite ugly because I tend to be a function over form. That was until I learned the areas around the blade are real air inlets. I know subjective, but the design trope took a whole different dimension to me after that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well said brother. I too share @inox confusion. You said you liked the 911 Dakar (They are accepting orders today btw, click here) it's not the doors you dislike. The 911 Dakar took out the 2 rear seats, but as we all know the 911 has a 4 seater (Iike the PS) - so I'm sure you can put them back in with stock parts if you desire. So I can only conclude height? What's your red line?
The 911 Dakar is a direct result of Porsche history and lineage. An SUV has no roots or lineage in Ferrari history. It wasn't made as an evolution of Ferrari's DNA it was made to exploit a now popular niche and cash in. Ferrari saw all the money being left on the table and couldn't resist. How do they walk away from all that easy money? I get it. I don't like it but I understand their motive. What's next an EV pickup truck?
I mean, it's got a Ferrari engine, a Ferrari design, and was built at Maranello? It's going to be fast. If that's not Ferrari DNA, I don't know what is. I can only conclude that the reason for your dismay is that the PS is 62 inches tall. (with adjustable dampers that can lower height by 1/2 inch) Do you consider the M5 Competition (Fastest Sedan around the Ring') milquetoast? Are BMW M5s bad? It's 58 inches tall. Maybe your red line is that any car taller than 58 inches is not legit. Coolio, everybody has their arbitrary 'red lines,' so to speak. Perhaps the quibbling between this and other 'real sports cars' is the 4-inch delta in roof line. Funny, I made a hand gesture of 4 inches with my thumb and index figure, which reminded me of when women would make that gesture. Again, this thread explains so much to me.
It's always problematic to reduce the very complex design of vehicles to one detail. Here's a small example: What does this rear (fog) light have to do with the overall design of the three vehicles? Exactly: NOTHING! So: If they copy, let them copy! They only learn from the best... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lol, just stop with the height nonsense. It is a SUV. I didn’t say it wasn’t a Ferrari. Of course it’s a Ferrari. I certainly didn’t question its performance. I questioned it’s purpose. Now, is Ferrari in the SUV business? Apparently so. No matter what any of us think that’s the move they made. Only time will tell if it was a good move for the brand long term.
the “purpose” ?? … WHY NOT ?? For me for instance, is it a PERFECT daily, that’s mine “purpose” , now I can enjoy Ferrari with my family, and can even take my dog with me …
But wasn't that possible before? Source: https://www.motoringexposure.com/youll-never-be-as-lucky-as-racepooch-in-a-laferrari/
Im pretty sure they'll be fine, like any other manufacturer who started selling SUVs. And most of them did it with a much lower margin as it is overall quite a competitive segment. But Ferrari pricing it at 400K+ Euros and filling the order book in no time is a proof already that this will be a cash cow for the company.
That’s great. I understand it from that viewpoint. Drive the wheels off and enjoy in good health! When I worked at a dealer we had a customer who took his bulldog every where in his Testarossa. He had us build an acrylic panel to mount on top of the center console to stop the dog from chewing on everything. I have no doubt they will be fine. Though I would argue that everything they do now is a cash cow. Just look at their options price list now.
Don't let day355 see that! He would banned it. My suggestion: For group shots, the tallest (= Purosangue) should be in the last row.
