FANTASTIC ! A dream so see such an original untouched car. Like you say “reference car”, very clear picture, this i never knew. Was that red colour on the air filter base also used on SV’s or just on P400 and P400S?

It's my understanding that it was used on all of them. Red brick color and not very shiny. Almost like a primer we use in the US.

WoW !! This is impressive info, Thanks! What would you suggest for cleaning? Media blasting with the finest glass and after that in a whashing machine or no media blasting at all?

+1 on Pierce Manifolds! Great folks to deal with. They used to laugh when I would call to order rebuild kits for the 42DCNF carbs. I would buy 12 kits! At the time I had an ‘83 Jalpa and (2) 1980 Maserati 4Porte’s, all of which used (4) 42DCNF’s each. I felt like I could rebuild the DCNF in my sleep. LOL!

Perhaps the ones attentive to the reading of my post have noted my typing mistake : hexavalent chrome is chrome VI - six (and not chrome IV like I typed...) .
Alodine 1200 is hexavalent chrome Cr6+, but as I said, due to current regulation (proved high cancer risk for people working with CR6+), it is now often replaced by trivalent chrome (Cr3+ - Surtec 650) , but not giving the expected yellow/olive color we need on our Miura Weber carbs...

Yes, like primer it is, looks great. How about your engine? Is that going to be painted silver or just cleaned or media blasted?

Yeah, they are great. I have a spare set of 40IDL Miura carburetors that I picked up, and had them restore for me recently. Mike and his team did a great job, and they flow tested right to original specs. No coating on them, but still great nonetheless. These are not going on my cars...they are just for spare. They look great on my bookshelf.

Original Miura engines were painted silver, in fact. So, mine will be done just like that. Silver paint, not very glossy. Most shops do this...Top Motors included.

Yes, prior to any Alodine 1200 treatment, your parts need to be perfectly clean : main dirt can be removed by any process you want, but the major issue is the final degreasing. And people offering Alodine 1200 treatments can easily advise you in the correct way to do it.
An ultra-sonic cleaning is also recommended after the parts have been exteriorly cleaned.
And in case you touch your now perfectly clean part directly with your bare hands just before an Alodine 1200 chemical treatment, don't be surprized to see your fingerprints fixed in the final coating result of your newly restored part !....
A proper degreasing is the basis prior to any Alodine 1200 treatment.

Claudio Zampolli who was on the factory Miuras production line told me that the chemical bath process resulted of a less durable coating than was subsequently available, that's why so many original cars look like this was never done.

    Correct.

    Here is the car http://joesackeyclassics.com/portfolio/the-miura-that-time-forgot-3216/

In 1967, my client and his new young wife decoded to take their honeymoon in Italy. Of course, little did she know that their Grand Tour in a little FIAT would take them right past the Lamborghini factory. Seeing the factory buildings loom up she yelled "LAMBORGHINI!" to which he swerved into the gates and asked to visit unannounced. He ordered his Miura 3216 directly from Ubaldo Sgarzi on the factory floor, with special Mohair-covered seats. On the way out it he ran into Bob Wallace who said nonchalantly: "Oh, it'll do 175" (Wallace told everyone this).

He still has 3216 to this day.

Exactly why you see so many variations of the color today, the one I posted above is really the best I have seen it terms of hue & texture, just perfect.

Never sell, better than money in the bank.

The spot you circled is the spot the factory put the red dot on to signify the carbs have been tuned. It is the correct size and shape used. It appears to have been hand applied with a paint brush. As far as the original color of the carb one could argue the bit under the red paint is correct as it was preserved. My understanding is the air filter base was changed from red to black sometime when the S or SV as introduced. The car you showed is a very special car. Note the hose clamps used. Very unusual to see them still on a car.

    Cheers Jim

Hard to say. It could equally be the case that the red paint peeled off, taking some of the gold finish with it. To me that sounds more likely, as the area in the circle looks like bare aluminum and the rest of the carb is goldish in color. Agreed that it’s a very special car!

Indeed, when I got the opportunity to visit with it and photograph it for posterity, I didn't hesitate.

    Exactly this, I think.

Yes, thanks, I'm aware, I'm adding the fact that the spare wheel is not SV-spec to the list of items that could use attention or rectification.

Thanks for the link, increidible car, not even 4000 km, COMPLETELY untouched!!! When you look at these pictures you can almost SMELL that car! Ok, normally i am only a reader here, i am going back to reader only modus again. Thanks guys for always posting nice info and so much great pictures, i really enjoy it! I am sure there are lots of reader only guys who enjoy this. Keep up the good work! Today i am going to find out or i can find a place over here to give my weber carbs give this coating, unfortunally not for on a Miura, currently building a 73 911 RS spec, with a further tuned 2.7 minus the MFI, just a car to have some fun with on windy roads. I prefer original cars but sometimes its just fun to do such things like this. Ciao!

One thing i forgot to ask, does anyone know why the original wheels where replaced by replica’s? I think its always a shame original components are taken away from a car. Perhaps its done for safe driving but in that case i would have expect they would mount the originals on at a event like that especially Polo Storico is all about originallity.

View attachment 2654588 Concerning my former Miura #3165 I can confirm that I asked Olivier Nameche to find a client for the car. He presented to me Giampaolo Dallara as a presumtive buyer. To inspect the car, he and Dallaras chief engineer came to my home in Sweden and thouroughly examined all parts. Hereafter he made the deal with Dallara.
Happily Giampaolo Dallara now has the so called "Tamiura" in his museum.

What a great story. It cannot be easy to part with a Miura. But to know it went to such a good home must be reassuring. Especially to know it was restored to such a good standard and is displayed often. Another happy ending!

Simply because PS was running out of time, the original wheels were not ready for Retromobile

and you are right, I confirm you it is for safety reason they replace them for safe driving.

Keep one detail in mind, PS got the car enf of september 2017, and started to work on it end of october due to some administration issues, not before, the car was finished for the show... short time for a full restoration.
