Another period image jewel from Jens L, here is the scene at Portman Lamborghini UK's West London service center circa 1989, and the car to the far right is none other than my very first Lamborghini, the MOTOR magazine 1983 Fastest Car in the World, the Nero/Rosso LP500S CLA12515.

In those days we would use the cars every weekend all summer then bring it in for service in the fall or winter

  2. Driver's side air box is the worst part of the job. Patience is not a virtue, it is a necessity when working on a Countach!

Correct, that's Richard Earl's LP400 1120106, he's had it for @ 33 years, and it's existed on the same registration (actually 3 DUU) for almost 40 years I think, very original LP400 that's been featured in both Classic & Sportscar magazine and Supercar & Classics magazine, also on the cover and in the book 'The Lamborghinis'

By the way it's a sister car to yours in livery terms.

Having my engine overhauled by Mike and we noticed that at some stage the gearbox moulding changed on the 5000s to a plain finish rather than the fins

The smooth finish is the later ZF unit I believe used for the QV circa late 1985 onwards, are we sure the gearbox has not been changed on that later LP500S?

Yes, I believe they all did, as did the Miuras.

Gearbox hasn't been changed but the car is one of the last 5000s so probably knowing the factory they just started to use the new design

    Countach LP400S S1 1121038, this morning.

I guided this car's restoration to completion, then later conveyed it into the collection of a Countach Connoisseur

The restoration was done by Bobileff Motorcar Co commencing @ 10 years ago, then I took it and had Luis Meza redo the interior (the 2nd time, post-restoration to the right specs) plus we did a not inconsiderable amount of fine-tuning and fettling thereafter.

Testing out the period correct graphics on the former JC Mimran 1980 LP400 S "Monaco" pace car.

We have almost completed the preservation of the original Bianco paint and the original Blue interior.

Installed new Pirelli P7 tires for some spirited driving and now to complete a full mechanical restoration.

    Love it!

John we'll be waiting to see it act as pace car at the 2020 Daytona 24 hrs, 12 hours of Sebring, Lamborghini Super Trofeo race, or even Monaco or Monterey Historics leading some of the very cars it paced back in period.

You're spoilt for choice, and if I were a race organizer I'd grab it with both hands, coolest Pace Car on the planet so I hope it has a busy schedule!
