Hello all, I've been quiet on this subject but have been a very avid viewer of this thread. First all, kudos to Jeff for starting this great thread as this has galvanized me and re-awoken my interest in the toolkit for my car. I purchased my QV (known as Daisy to the family) in 2013 it came with . . . . . . . nothing! No toolkit whatsoever, no bag, nada! However, this was just a minor inconvenience to me and did not detract from my purchase. The car needed some love to get it back to original spec. Incorrect gear knob was fitted, Michael Call from this site had a NOS which he kindly sold to me. There was a tonne of audio kit fitted. Including CD jukebox in the boot (rear trunk), 3 amplifiers, 8 speakers and an incorrect Sony head unit. YUK ! The only audio needed is that V12! All of this was stripped out. The spare wheel was nasty and was refinished and Mike Pullen gave her his love and she’s run like a dream ever since. Like a lot of owners, I’m a bit obsessive in ensuring that my car is correct as it can be. So the search was on for a toolkit for Daisy. The odd tool kit came up for sale, but they are big money and out of my reach. I’m not your stereo typical supercar owner, I do have a budget and spending 1000’s on a complete or almost complete kit was not a priority for me. But I’m in this for the long haul so I’m prepared to wait and acquire items as and when they become available. So here I am nearly 7 years later and you know what, I’ve done pretty well (I think) in building a toolkit for madam. How was this been achieved? Well with patience, research and some great people on this forum. Special thanks to Joe, RaymondQV and Sp1der who had items that are now in my kit, thanks guys, could not have done it without you! So what do I have? 2 strap bag Jack with ratchet / spanner Phillips Pot bulb (green base as opposed to yellow) Kravm 17 and 10 spanners. Gloves Pliers Flat and crosshead screwdrivers. What am I missing? Belts which are easy enough to order. I’ll get around to this soon. Spark plug spanner extension Spark plug spanner extension lever (handle) These could be a tough find. But you never know! I’ve recently got a hold of a 19mm wheel spanner and Tommy bar. Its not in great shape so is undergoing some restoration. As per picture, it’s having a nice bath in white vinegar to get rid of some surface rust. I’ll then drop this down to my chrome guy. I’ve also got the spark plug spanner, the one with the flexible joint in it. I’ve got to collect this, so not got picture at the moment. So there you have it. My toolkit story to date. If you have the time and are willing to wait a while, pieces do come up from time to time. It can be done !! My best Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic. You’re clearly doing a great job piecing this together. I’ll keep a eye open for the items you still need. As you’ve, stated (and as I’ve mentioned early in this thread) they aren’t easy to find but they do pop up. What year is your car?
Following up on my new old rusty 19m wheel spanner. 24 hours in white vinegar, good going over with wire wool and a degreaser and what a difference! Will get the spanner off to be rechromed and job done. Moral of the story, don't be put off by a bit of rust. . . . Thanks Charles. I did not expect it to come out this good. First time with a rusty tool restore so to speak. But not a lot of effort and if I can do this, anyone can! Cheers Rob
And why not. I’ve enjoyed putting mine together. As mentioned this is now year 6 of my efforts but its been fun. Dive right in my friend. Sooner you start, sooner you finish ;-)
Ebay has given me a few items. Reaching out to others on this forum has been a great help also. Great community here with sage advice!
Charles for your 5000QV, I believe its missing the black plastic knurled wheel on the jack and the handle is too long (and has the 90° bend at the end). The 5000QV ratchet is shorter and painted 1/2 black. Mike
Unfortunately, it’s missing the height regulator. See photo. Good news is the jacks are one of the easier pieces to find. They were used in many cars from that era. Image Unavailable, Please Login
