    Probably for something as simple as Transportation Authority rear-view mirror specification mandates.

    Although a brilliant idea for a Prototype Show-car, it was likely deemed unsuitable for a Production Road-car.

    Yes, it was on the LP400 Periscopo but was non-functional. Those cars had a convential rear view mirror as Joe mentioned.

    For clarification, all production Countach LP400 were built with just the notch in the roof with skylight which was retained as a design feature, there was no 'Periscope' mirror, just a standard rear-view mirror.
