As with most Countachs, FLA12877 was delivered wingless, then it wore an LP400S-type wing without end-plates for many years, now it's back to it's original wingless configuration. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another example of the same thing is the famed CLA12477 below, completed without a wing, but one was added later and has remained on the car for years till this day. The trend these days is to remove the wing to restore the purity of the car's design and shape, it really is superfluous to the car's character, this trend being accentuated by the received wisdom that the wing is not only an unofficial appendage, but it actually slows the car down, adds weight, reduces rearward visibility a bit and was never aerodynamically tested for effectiveness. When you add the hassles of paint-bubbling that inevitably occurs over time, you have an appendage that is truly redundant. When asked, I advise clients to get rid of them. That said, I understand their appeal amongst those who like them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've been a Countach fan since I was 4 trying to get my mom to buy me a 1/24 scale black/brown interior model at a department store that is still here, here is me back in 2001 standing next to my first Countach at Newport Beach Exotics, which is now I believe a Rolls dealer. If you take it off, keep it because you may change your mind and if you sell the car the next person might ask for it. Once you've decided it's a permanent transformation, refinishing the rear trunk-lid is simple as you can detach the unit and take it to have a good coach-builder make it like a wing never happened, then bolt it back on - the car can stay at home. I would go ahead and do this because, even if you sell the car and the new owner wants the wing, all he needs is a power-drill and time, both of which people seem to always have. I've removed a few wings. My experience was positive because I approach the Countach from more of a technical than emotional viewpoint so removing the wing felt to me like I'd improved the car and made it as it should be, IMVHO of course.
Yep no real difference at legal speeds. Just dominated the looks as mine had the large wing, now decoration on the garage wall.
Shame on you all for making your Countach's naked! My wing is on. It's staying on. It's from the era of excess and outrageousness! But everyone is different. Enjoy your beautiful cars in whatever configuration. R
My 82 LP5000S had a Burtoni fiberglass wing on it when I got it (quickly removed). Now if only I had a custom van to mount it on.
I did a quick one. 1/16 inch aluminum plate perfectly manicured and painted , applied with 2 dabs of silicon. Not for the purists, but actually worked well. Plan was to do a complete body re paint at some point. Now 14 years later still original. Its a nice way to get to use your car wingless for a period, if you really like it better with the wing. You simply remove the tiny plates and bolt it back on. Probably works even better on the Anniversary car. With its more busy design.l just did this on my friends 96 Diablo for the reason he was not sure if he wanted wing or wingless Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think we can say - nobody would... otoh there are persons who destroy the history of Rod Stewarts LP400 262 and bring it back to the boring LP400 look - never say never
No, because those wide-buttress wings were designed by one of the world's greatest competition aerodynamicists, Giampaolo Dallara, and they not only looked spectacular, they actually worked at very high speed, as Walter Wolf lived to tell me. I owned a Countach with a Wolf-Dallara Wing, LP400S S1 1121038, and we kept the wing on of course, as one does if a car has special purpose-built features. Image Unavailable, Please Login
1038's wing is adjustable using a pair of wire-secured lynchpins, per the Walter Wolf cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I came across that A.hole abusing and raping a Countach on your tube and proud of it. Disgusting. I had to leave a comment. dont hold back guys and leave thumbs down. Listen to his fart going in at 8:02 and watch him passed by service van. Not liking Countach is fine but this is over the line.He is like this old crak/cocaine guy in my town having a similar countach who destroyed it. I dont want to start have this go on in this thread just showing here for good feedback on his stupid video. disgusting
