Lol thanks. Duude could have been more comfy. That is, if it adjusts to anything close to my qv ,that being said. The LP400 plain jane basic is absolutely the coolest car ever to exist.

The former Jean-Claude Mimran Lamborghini Countach LP400S, the 1981 Monaco Grand Prix Intervention car, makes its debut for the inaugural "Supercar Class" at the Amelia Island Concours. After over 1 year of carefully servicing and preparing the preservation car with 4,000 original miles, it was an honor to receive the Amelia Award as runner-up for Best in Class. Tough competition including the Collier Museum McLaren F1, a stunning Porsche 959 S, the former DK Engineering Mercedes CLK-GTR, 288 GTO and more.

    QUESTION:

Currently engaged in cosmetic restoration of a 1984 Lamborghini Countach. I prefer the cleaner look and would like to go without the 5000 on the rear and just have Countach S (in addition to Lamborghini and the Bull emblem). Most of the cars that I've seen have the 5000 back there. But others have shown up without, like this one from a Sotheby's auction in 2019.

Can I get away without the 5000? Or is it too much of a no-no? As an aside, the vehicle will have a very clean appearance with Euro fascia' front/rear, no side markers, and no wing.

    Thanks all.

    Cheers.

Interesting photos. I’m not an expert on the 5000S, though I’m pretty certain that they all came with the 5000 badge on the rear panel It would seem a previous owner had this removed. In my opinion, and I’m a purist, keep it stock. That’s how it came from the factory, so that’s how it should be. I applaud you reverting the other elements of the car to its original look.

    if your car is a 1984 car, it is a 5000s and it had a 5000 and S badge...the S only is for the 400S cars (1978-82)
the 400S cars never had a bull badge while the 5000s started without a bull on the back in 1982 and finished with the bull in 1984

Awesome guys. Thanks Emilio and Rossocorsa1.

LamborghiniChat is the best forum for accurate information on vintage Lamborghini's. Very grateful for this site and it's talented contributors.

Here is the rear currently. It's a well-sorted car that has been kept-up mechanically, just is in-need of a proper cosmetic restoration.

Also - thanks to Joe Sackey for taking the time to graciously give me a very informative phone call regarding Countach', a few months back.

If you’re going through the exercise of reverting the DOT ad-one, I would also have the tail panel removed and restore the flat rear panel, as it was meant to look.

Wish the question was not asked. Now that you point it out, lot of emblems back there!

Totally agree. I always take off badges/emblems. The only one on the rear of my Diablo SV is a big Bull.

But this one will be completely stock. Going for a clean original Euro look. Trying to source P7's....

As it rolled off the factory line is as it should be. It’s as simple as that.

Your car your money, but consider that the Countach has attained a certain classic car status as underscored by a Class this year at Pebble Beach now that it has been around for 50 years. Quite frankly, Countachs always look best and appeal to the ever-increasingly knowledgeable public in pure European guise prior to it's maker being forced to compromise the car to meet USA DOT mandates. They're also worth more that way.

My recommendation would be to put your car on trimming diet and rid it of all the USA DOT-mandated appendages you can find on the car from bumper to bumper (including engine components if this LP500S is one of those running a BMW Fuelie system). If you're wondering, IMO the only time when the aforementioned appendages will have been worth saving is, never.

As regards P7s, no excuses or debate there, they are readily available in the USA https://www.lucasclassictires.com/Lamborghini-Countach-tires_c269.htm with new production upcoming from the factory as well.
