Very nice new Italian book about the Countach. The preface is by Marcello Gandini himself. It is written in both Italian an English. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Says the book isn't released until December. Has anyone had the opportunity to see a pre-release copy?
https://www.maranellocollection.com/prodotto/supercars-lamborghini-countach-francesco-patti/ It's available in some places.
Agreed, unfortunately, classic Lamborghinis are particularly prone to lack of information & misinformation, plus a general tendency for people to make up the narrative to suit whatever their point of view about the cars happens to be. It seems to me that the Countach could use a good thorough definitive publication on the model featuring all the variants in their original optimized specification.
Hi All does anybody have a copy of the Countach S LP400 user manual in electronic format? Or anywhere it can be found? Mine was unfortunately misplaced and I need the information regarding the wheel alignment settings, etc. Thanks!
I've often wondered where & when Bob Wallace tested the LP400 Prototype on the track. The correct answer per Pete Coltrin's own notes I've managed to ascertain is, the Misano World Circuit in April 1973. Located in Misano Adriatico (Rimini) near Italy's east coast about 135 kilometers from the Sant Agata factory, I bet it only took him just over an hour each way! Such a cool image with Nomex, full-face helmet and Britax harnesses in evidence. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm not sure John Denver actually owned a Countach, anyway this was at Willow Springs in California and you can see a California dealer plate in the quarter window so perhaps it was brought there by a dealer.
John’s manager is my client and told me that he had a countach back in the day. Never needed to verify his assertion
Well that's good enough direct corroboration for me! I looked this up some time ago and could never find anything so I wondered if he ever had one and if so how long he kept it, I believe the car in the image is an LP500S.
Strange you should mention this Joe as I had not heard of the Misano circuit till a short while ago when I considered going to the Italian Speed Festival, a new classic racing event happening this weekend ( tomorrow) although it clashes with the big Italian classic car show in Padua which is on now . I was going to try and do both but other things got in the way.
I took this photo at the Zoute Concours in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, October 8, 2022. I was there with my Belgium friend and fellow Lamborghini historian Kevin Crauwels. A fantastic event! This is a LP400 S, Series 3. Bianco with bianco wheels, how nice! This car is for sale btw…More pictures and info can be found at my www.countach-register.com An amazing site where nearly all 2000 Countachs built are registered. Please check it out ;-) Image Unavailable, Please Login
You should take the LP400 down to Misano to pay homage, that would be quite a road trip! Meanwhile for those who follow such things, Lamborghini recently did a Misano area revisit, I'm not sure if they got the cars on the track though. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I vaguely remember this photo from a magazine article in period. If my memory serves correctly, the article said that John Denver was a Porsche 928 owner. If you look closely, you will notice Christopher Cross who also enjoyed period soft rock stardom leaning on the roof of the Countach. I recall the article saying that Christopher Cross was a BMW M1 owner. If you look at the man kneeling next to the car talking to Denver, you will recognize him as 1985 Indy 500 winner "spin and win" Danny Sullivan.
