If I remove this, will it eliminate TPMS errors? I literally do not want to have TPMS on my car. For me, its a useless bit of tech and an annoyance.

I wouldn't say it is useless. It has warned me of low pressure slow leak a couple times before I needed a tow.

Useless tech if it doesn’t work correctly; I had both the Maserati and Ferrari turned off, got tired of f..ing with both of them and I do know how to check tire pressures(duh). Another mechanism to dumb down society. No need to remove, have an independent shop turn off the TPMS.

Hey Kent- not to insult your intelligence in any way but if the TPMS is being flaky- and as such- annoying- have you done the recalibration? Mine flaked out a couple months ago and was throwing errors/beeping/warnings etc despite the tire(es) being perfectly inflated- Did the recalibration and no issues since.

    Just a thought-

My concern with removing or disabling it would be how intricate and intertwined the systems are in a 458 and the fact that TPMS communicates with the ECU (which as you know is why/where if this communication is slightly delayed you get false warnings) so disabling or removing TPMS could play havoc with other things- LOTS more knowledgeable people on here than me though.

Hope you get it sorted- Cheers

I've tried to recalibrate the TPMS to no effect. I suspect its a battery failure in one of the units. I share your concerns with disabling it, that's why I posted my question. I was thinking of simply removing the tire pressure ECU. I really see no purpose for this bit of nanny kit for my purposes. I'm only speaking to my personal preferences. If others want a TPMS system that's fine by me. I wouldn't encourage or discourage its use for another owner. For me, and I've been driving for decades, this system is meaningless for me. My car is only driven about 1500 miles at the most during the year and I always check the tire pressures prior to backing out of the garage and a TPMS is useless for a possible life threatening tire blow out at speed on a 4 wheel vehicle. TPMS can help to prevent traction control issues, I acknowledge that, but that's a risk I'm willing to take vs. the annoyance of having to get someone to fix issues that arise like the one I'm dealing with. If I need to replace a tire or wheels, no big deal for me.

I own a few motorcycles with TPMS and I absolutely need TPMS on those. TPMS is an essential bit of kit for me on a motorcycle. So I'm not against TPMS entirely.

I hear ya- Frankly I think they are a PITA as well since I meticulously check my pressures- FCS the system in my Hellcat fires all the time in cold temps! But I suppose given the cost of tires and wheels on and very low sidewalls on cars like my 458 and GT3 it might save me $$ or give early warning of an issue.

I did post my issue a while back and several members responded with TPMS sensor replacement options since the batteries do tend to only last about 4-5 years so that might be a cheaper and less disruptive option.

    Cheers

Yeah, if it was simple to go down to a specialist to change out the batteries, I would. Unfortunately, I'm several hundred miles round trip from a tech I would trust to touch the car.

I'm sure someone in my position has done what I'm contemplating, just finding them will be the struggle.

    Have a great weekend!

You as well  Apparently swapping out the sensors is a simple DIY thing- I'll see if I can find the thread- I believe it was @FerrariCognoscenti who responded- But "DIY" for this guy is a bit different- he is insanely awesome with what he undertakes on his 458- Fascinating- Cheers

Just remove the TPMS ECU. Done. Problem solved. Light goes away.

I think changing the TPMS every 4-5 years wouldn’t be that burdensome in comparison to the annual maintenance.
Maybe you even get it done at the dealer with the maintenance?

I wonder how we all managed to drive safely before TPMS?

Is it not as simple as taking it to any tyre place to remove the tire, then change the tpms. Once the wheel is off you just unscrew it and fit the replacement.

Yes, it is that simple. However, its a 300 mile roundtrip for me.

Basically my point/attitude in response to Kents post about "how did we drive all those years without TPMS" is its better to have TPMS and not need it than need it and not have it- 355 obviously does not have it but still manage to get around- The other newer cars have it and while it can he finicky with weather and batteries and communication delays it is nice to have IMHO.

    Cheers

Right now I'm living with the light. I guess I'll have new TPMS sensors put back on with new tires.

Thanks, Ive done that and still have the light. Diag tool says canbus error wheel status not reached, and no reception front and rear wheel sensor. Dont know if that means the TPMS ECU antenna or what? Going to indy and see if he can dx. If new Computer, I hope to disable it.
