It seems like this is the commonly accepted way to park the car, but what's the sequence of events? Do DCT cars have a parking pawl like other automatic transmission vehicles, or is it just left in gear like a manual? I'm guessing that the electronic parking brake also engages, but does that happen before or after the vehicle is put in park? I'm mainly wondering about the proper procedure to park on a slope, to minimize stress on the parking pawl, if there is one. Should the parking brake always be engaged first before turning the car off?

Yes there is a parking pawl, parking brake and the car will leave 1st and reverse gear engaged. Clutch and gearbox is disengaged from the engine as it requires the hydraulic pressure to engage clutch.

So effectively, the car is in neutral with the parking pawl in place and the parking brake applied? Does the parking brake get applied first, or does it rest on the pawl before the parking brake gets applied?

The parking pawl will drop first and the parking brake second. whether it is resting on the park pawl or the parking brake probably is determined by the timing and whether you are on a hill or not. Steep hill you are likely on the park pawl flat ground the parking brake will likely be doing the heavy lifting. Not sure it really makes any difference.

Good to know. I will probably just engage the parking brake first before turning off the car so that the brakes are the primary method of holding the car in place if I'm ever on an incline.
