I was at Gaydon last year with the AM classic/heritage guys. Some lovely cars there. They all to a man said they would go for a V12 Vantage first gen (not S) rather than the S. More pure, more feedback. They had one there which I drove and liked a lot, but it was 4 years after I drove the S, so I can't really compare. Either way, they are special cars, but I'm still not convinced they will hold value. But who knows.

Similar price zone to a 550 here. I'd still take a 550. It's a Ferrari. And they will certainly hold prices.

Cheapest 550 on the market I see is $229K in silver with 50K miles.
The rest are near 300. Double that of the V12 stick Vantage.
Granted the 550 is a Ferrari after all but the Vantage, DBS etc look so much more elegant IMO. I cant get over the hood snorkel on the 550.

I always look at relative value. Say you sold the F430 for $125,000. What can you buy for $125,000 that would be cooler than the F430? If it were me, I'd buy a Porsche GT4. Fantastic car! But you apparently don't like porkers, so you'd have to look elsewhere.

Amazing. Here in the UK you can pick up a 550 for less than a V12 Vantage S, any day of the week. You can get a beautiful 550 for $125k.

i do exactly the same thing, which is how this thread came to be.
coolness is also in the eye of the beholder.....but i dont think any comparably priced porsche is as cool as a 430 :)

981 or 718 spyders are pretty cool, has an exotic look most Porsches don’t have. Sound is much more musical than 430 too. 430 really shrieks at the high end, but at high gear/low rpm, makes a funny noise my wife says sounds like “Chewbacca”. But I agree, the intangible experience of the 430 eclipses the objective competence of the Porsche

Mine was tuned and had headers and exhaust. It would break loose in 3rd gear. The sound was epic.

V12 Vantage S, F430, McLaren. I love the automated manual V12S, knowing that many don't. You have to go aggressive and then it shifts very fast. It's a pretty sporty car, well suited for spirited alpine driving. The manual V12 predecessor is a very cool car but steering, suspension and brakes are inferior to the S. The F430 will also hold value quite well, as its design is timeless, it is fast enough and the automated manual is great fun. I'd add the 997 GT3 to the group. The last of the small group and also a lot of fun.

did they say anything about the various Vanquish models?
the first one is priced very low, but i guess with good reason.
the vanquish s is slightly higher.
any vanquish with a manual is double.
and then there is the 2012 model that is around the $130k mark here and has the same v12 as the vantage s.....

    just curious

I may have mentioned Ross… I daily a 2014 Vanquish - not the S version. But it has plenty of power and an intoxicating NA V12 note. The previous gen gearbox is fine as a daily. It’s not as clunky as an SMG or Murcie or SF1 gearbox.
I’ve had 2 DBS’ in the past, one manual one auto, and they are nice but a bit underpowered.
    Highly recommend!
Oh value-wise, as previously mentioned… all my Aston’s have lost value. But boy are they seductive and elegant.
Maybe a Valhalla may hold value [emoji848]

    thanks for this info.

i really like the latest vanquish.
but if i open the door to switching to GT's in my mind, then i have to add a whole new sector to the list of possible cars to switch to!
of the cars i really like in this price range, i would not only have to add this vanquish, but also the 575m, the 612 etc

oh no! what have i done ?! i am not going to get any sleep for the rest of the week! :) ;)

Let the GT force be with you, do not fight it anymore, and you will be happier ;):)

I’m a GT guy and my favorite Ferraris are Daytonas, Dinos, 456s, 612s, Californias/Portofinos, FFs/Lussos, Romas, 812s too… You will actually sleep better on that side of the Ferrari force…:)

997 GT3 is probably destined to be a classic collectible car, but for $120k it would have to have a current engine bay fire.

That's a great question- Seems to be the trend lately- Will see- Regardless a 430 factory F1 is still a phenomenal car- And I'm a manual guy!
