The foam is actually quite important in a bladder type tank. Not only does it help the tank maintain it shape..but it prevents fuel starvation as the bladder doesn't have any baffling at all other then the foam. I do agree..it is a completely unnecessary device in a street car. Unfortunately for this car..there is no option to replace the bladder set up with a conventional fuel tank. You would have to really cut into the car to open up the bladder cavity to install a tank. At that point..IMHO the car would be scrap.
Here is a good pic of how warped the cam covers were.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
tbakowsky, Great job! But....... And Ive done them before as I stated in the past. Say you are 50 years old. At 55 you have to do it again.... at 60 again, 65 again, 70 again, 75 God willing again. I bought a Ferrari 575 and all my troubles went away! King of the Jags, but Its a joke....... Enjoy the car , you have 4 years and 364 days till the tear down again. I would make a 4 or 5 gallon tank in aluminium if possible if it could fit in the hole.... Just a terrible design, we tried but nothing worked. 50 to 100 grand every 5 years..... gtjoey1314
Thank goodness it is not my car. But you are right, it could have been. Designed much better. But with under 300 built..I can understand some engineering short falls and just accept them as part of the job when serving exotics. Engine is back in again..and runnin, but I may need to drop it again. Having an issue with the serpentine belt tensioner. Seems it's pivoting too far up, and the shiftershaft is interfering with the serp belt on the tensioner pulley.. it's a new tensioner..but something is off with it.
Manged to fix the tensioner issue without removing the engine. Basicly the belt that was supplied was about 5mm too long. So we ordered a replacement and voila..no more clearance issues. Car as it sits now..just putting the rest of the interior back together. Another issue popped up..the clutch master decided to fail..just old I guess..so it's still a dud until a rebuild kit arrives for it. Never ends with this thing it seems.. As gtjoey said, thanks for posting. 1 of my fav. cars as u can see from my username. I'm guessing the V12 was not the only thing they changed after taking the deposits at the launch. But one of the most beautiful designs and hopefully some1 figures out a solution for the bladder tank. Thanks.
Youll get it! I now drive a Ram Dodge 1500 with a Hemi with a 375 dollar lease..... Its a wonderful who cares kind of feeling. Oh then the 575 m ,a belt job for under 5 grand, nothing. every 4 or 5years. God bless you my friend, but when I turned 55 ,I GOT VERY TIRED.........OF EVERYTHING. GTJOEY1314 P.S Before you button everything up,hows the A/C ?
So your on the path already to mental freedom , Sadly my Ford guys produce nothing but cheap warranty claim junk. That Dodge for a 3 year lease is a wonderful transporter. I get 20 mpg with the 8 speed and its so smooth and quiet. The seats are comfy too. Also in New York when you drive OVER people you hardly feel a thing with the rear coil suspension gtjoey1314
It doesn't cost anywhere close to 50k , never mind 100k to service the car every 5 years . I am not sure where you getting your numbers from , the fuel cell is like 15k and the labour . And you can stretch the 5 years a bit . The parts are a nuisance yes but that is the price to pay for owning something that is pretty unique and a piece of art in my opinion.
Okay, post the break down of parts........go ahead AND INCLUDE LABOR..... Im game for a laugh............ gtjoey1314 Im in a good mood today , tell us , break it all down with labor and 1 parts supplier love gtjoey1314
OK.. progress on the clutch master cylinder replacement/rebuild. I had to remove the entire dash to get access to the pedal assembly. Time consuming but not really all the difficult. Just gotta be really careful. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is why the master failed. Old silicone brake fluid gelling up in the bore and around the seals. Gross..now I gotta go through the entire system to be sure it's all out. It never ends with this thing.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I guess it’s never coming….. Well here is a picture of the partial amount of parts you need every 4 to 5 years and if you don’t and the foam breaks down with ethanol fuel you will need new injectors as well as seals and possible cats if everything plugs up! Fun car! Image Unavailable, Please Login View attachment 3617923
I don't think any one wants to be bothered with your negativity and exaggerations. That's why you're being ignored. Leave this fantastic thread alone please.
Ummmm I guess the owners don’t count Just the bench racers….. Ghibli what’s you driving these days my friend a 220? How much was your last service? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just to let you know. "BMWracer" is an xj220 owner. His car is (just like all the rest it seems) currently awaiting some parts. He is local to me and I hope to see his car soon. I appreciate your interest in the work we are doing to the 220 and yes they are not cheap to keep alive and well. But with respect..I would like to keep costs private.
GTJ, Start another thread for your nonsense please. You'd be annoyed if you knew "what's" I'm driving.
