We have been waiting for the software update to come out. Dealer has the part but apparenlty not the software update to go along with it. We've held off sending our 2008 F430 down to Florida for the winter because of this. If we have the part changed without the software, will the car be safe to drive. Don't want a brake failure so haven't driven even during the nice weather early this month.

Dealer is telling me they are waiting on software. I'm going to check with the Miami Dealer.

The Ferrari recall letter sent to me clearly states that the software update doesn't apply to the F430. It only applies to later cars which have a text-based brake failure warning: the wording of the message is reworded by the software update to ensure that the driver stops immediately in the event of a brake failure.

If there is a update for the brake cap on the 430 how about the 360?

    mwstewart & others:

    Gentlemen:

Here, I have attached the exact recall notice I got in the mail about regarding my 2009 Ferrari F430 Spider. Please read it as it doesn't make any mention of a 'Software Update' as it only refers to the Brake Fluid Reservoir Cap which applies to Model Years 2005~2009 Ferrari F430 vehicles.

I trust this should clarify any misunderstanding. Also, if anyone has had their Brake Reservoir Cap changed out to the new one could they please be so kind as to attach photos of the 2 different Brake Reservoir Caps so we could see the differences?

    Thank you all for reading,

    johnfe

This a bit frustrating as my dealer (Ferrari of Seattle) is still saying there is a software update for my 2008 F430 spider.

I just re-read my email from the Service Writer at Ferrari of Los Angeles. She refers to a “software update” along with replacing the brake master cylinder reservoir cap.

It’s kinda worrying, knowing there are no wires going to the cap.

Guess I’ll find out when/if I take it in. Im gonna get them to give me a cap. I’m not driving my Ferrari into the bowels of Van Nuys.

LOL! Since I live in Manhattan Beach, CA I can't say, I don't blame you. Depending where you live I'd recommend going to South Bay Ferrari in Torrance, CA instead. I believe the idea behind customers coming in; is the Dealership is required to sign-off, that they faithfully complied with the government's demands. As of yet I haven't called them to verify they have the new Brake Reservoir Cap in stock as the letter recommends.

I hate to say it but im certain thats the old cap.

The new one is black and has a breather line on the underside under the black rubber.

I know because i did mine personally and the dealer had just got shipment.

    Back to the dealer sorry

I was thinking: “Meet the new cap…same as the old cap.” Time for a dealer call.

Got the story from FoLI. They applied campaign 423, which is a VIN writing procedure. Apparently, they still do not have the new brake caps yet, so the recall is still a few months out.

I can confirm that the new cap is black. Had the campaign performed by my dealer a week ago.

Just got off the phone with Ferrari of Central NJ, there aren't any caps available for the 430 recall yet around here. They said a second letter will be sent when the caps are available.

Hmmmmm… No vent hose coming off of it. Must be internally vented. I thought the old one is internally vented too.

Any chance you have a part number on that cap somewhere? I’m certain it’s going to be from a Fiat and $1… I’d like to buy it myself and avoid the dealer hassle. I already know more about it than they do.
