I recently picked up a 2018 GTC4 Lusso T with 3k miles and all was fine until I hit 5k miles and now I've encountered an intermittent problem engaging reverse. I have yet to determine what scenario causes this to happen, but the issue comes and goes seemingly at random. In one scenario, leaving the car parked allowed reverse to engage, in another scenario driving the car for an hour allowed the car to engage reverse, and in one bizarre scenario, pushing the car backwards a few feet allowed the car to engage reverse.

I've contacted my trusted independent Ferrari mechanic and he was unable to help. I dropped the car at the Ferrari dealer and they were unable to reproduce the issue; no error codes were thrown and there are no warning lights on the dash. I'm now relegated to ensuring I park where I don't have to reverse, which you might imagine can be quite inconvenient. I'm at a loss and am just simply waiting for reverse to consistently not engage.

Does anyone out there have any insight??? Thanks in advance.

When was last transmission fluid flush/replace? Maybe the fluid level is low or older fluid (based on car manufactured date, the fluid could be nearing 6 years old if not yet replaced). The car is still under 7-year free maintenance so it should of been done, but, maybe not?

Had this exact problem a week after taking delivery of my 2018 Lusso earlier this year (at the time it had 1800 miles on it).

Dealer here in LA fixed the issue by replacing the button assembly and as it was almost $1000, I had the selling dealer pay for it.

Thanks for the post. I think I may just request the button be replaced and hope for the best.

yeah the fact that nothing shows on the dash, and no error recorded makes me think the car never knew you wanted reverse. And therefore the button could be the issue.

If you are not afraid with some mild DIY, try opening up the bridge and swap the R button with the launch one, which I assume is used less often...

Nice idea. And you're right, I've yet to press that launch button..
